usccharles Posted March 25, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) just recently purchased alien skin. its such fun being able to use these old film profiles, i especially like the older, grainier b/w film profiles to give my images an older vintage look. but i feel so naughty because it would not be easy for me to replicate this on my own on photoshop. i enjoy the software so much that i hardly even touch many of the photoshop controls anymore. i just open my image and go straight to alien skin and choose a film profile i want. am i cheating? Rona!d Posted March 25, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2008 Why not shooting on film anymore, if the benefit of grainless and clear photography is not wished?
adan Posted March 25, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 25, 2008 I just wish they'd come out with an upgraded version that would make my film shots look like M8 files.....(grin!)..Cheap full-frame sensor (double grin!)
usccharles Posted March 25, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted March 25, 2008 Why not shooting on film anymore, if the benefit of grainless and clear photography is not wished? i use alien skin on film too!! i actually shoot even more film these days, lots of velvia 100, but sometimes i want to convert these to b/w, and i find alien skin brings out the best highlight, contrast, shadow combination than i can do on my own with photoshop. you can even choose different film settings without the grain so that the filter doesn't affect the original grain of my scanned film. i am cheating aren't I?! Rona!d Posted March 25, 2008 Share #5 Posted March 25, 2008 I know, we´re living in a virtual world, so why not using virtual film settings:D
mat_mcdermott Posted March 25, 2008 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2008 Cheating?!? There's no cheating in art. If Alien Skin gives you the look you want, then use it. Who cares if you couldn't do all the PS work yourself. I never learned how to develop color slide film, but used it all the time. Alien Skin works for me--the look of film, the convenience of digital capture--best of both worlds.
