tbusra Posted March 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm a Leica M8 & MP user, I use IR/UV filter for my lens when I use my M8. Should I use the same filter when I use my MP? Will that effect the quality of the picture? Thanks Thongchai
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Hi tbusra, Take a look here Effect from IR/UV filter with Film?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peterv Posted March 20, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2008 Hi Thongchai, You can leave the filters on if your lens is longer than 35 mm. For 35 mm and wider lenses it's better to take the filters of, because you will get cyan corners. Below the 21 Asph 2.8 with UV/IR filter Sorry for the poor quality. I didn't bother to scan this one in a high resolution, but you can clearly see the cyan corners.
tbusra Posted March 20, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted March 20, 2008 Thanks for your reply, one more question, what about B&W? Will the same effect happened with wider lens? Thongchai
peterv Posted March 20, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2008 I'm not sure, but I think it would hardly be visible, and it would look like vignetting a bit. It would also depend on the colours of the subject in the corners... How about a test roll and showing some examples here? BTW here's nother thread discussing the same topic: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/19158-486-ir-cut-filter-elmarit-24-a.html Cheers, Peter
