DOUG66 Posted April 13, 2010 Share #21 Posted April 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Jason, I Purchased a Ex Demo M8 two years ago from a UK dealer. I thought about it at the time but was assured by a friend that Leica would be very careful in checking out cameras that were to be used as demos as if faulty, could result in loss of sales and adverse publicity. This has proven to be correct and other than having to clean pollen off the sensor ( my own fault, I changed lenses in the Kukenhoff gardens in Holland), the camera has been trouble free. I applied for and got my two UV/IR filters which are necessary. I shoot DNG all the time and I have been amazed at the resolution and image quality of the camera with the latest 28mm 2.8 ASPH Elmarit and the 35mm F2 ASPH Summicron. The number of my camera is 3195478 and the box is clearly marked "Ex Demo" and I got a two year warranty with the camera, If my experience is correct you should have a trouble free camera so enjoy the experience of digital photography with a Leica M8. Advertisement Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Hi DOUG66, Take a look here Ex demo M8: concerns?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Pintpot Posted April 14, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 14, 2010 Yes you are right! I did enjoy using it, my previous Leica wa an old but good 111a + f2 Summar. I had a lot of enjoyment from that as well, that was sold on to help fund the M8. I find the 'feel' is about the same, but will have to get used to not wanting to wind the film on! But it fits in the hand well ( better than my DSLR) it just feels 'right' Tony (pintpot)

jrh68uk Posted April 18, 2010 Author Share #24 Posted April 18, 2010 I've only just noticed that my thread has been resurrected two years on Congrats Tony - I'm still using my M8 and I agree with Doug's comment above that ex-demo kit is highly likely to be carefully checked over. Mine has been absolutely fine except for a recent hot pixel which gives the line defect (the subject of a few threads her and in in the M9 forum). I'll probably have to send it in for a remap but I'm hoping that a firmware update at some point will enable us to map them out ourselves, as it's clearly still an issue with the M9. Enjoy your M8
M8China Posted April 19, 2010 Share #25 Posted April 19, 2010 I bought a M8.2 last month in Vienna which I suspect was either an ex-demo or ex-warranty return unit by someone else, but refurbished by Solms. The unit came with 2-year Leica warranty and I still get my 2 UV/IR filters after registration. The shop has several of these cameras and everyone has some defects on the paint work. Mine has a tiny scratch on the top plate. The reduced price was attractive and I am comfortable with the 4000+ shutter actuations already registered in the counter, so much so I just sold my M8 couple of days ago. Pintpot Posted April 27, 2010 Share #26 Posted April 27, 2010 Well my passport came through within a week, good to 2011 Now I've sent of for my free copy of the Leica magazine. Did not take long to find my way around the M8, so easy to use - esp. if one has had a rangefinder camera before. It's so good to have a camera that will produce colour, B&W, and I.R. in one neat little package. And I'm also enjoying using my feet as a zoom lens! One has to think more - it,s too easy to sit back with a 28 to 200+ zoom - using 1 lens gets you closer - less detached from the subject.
