robert_parker Posted March 18, 2008 Author Share #21 Posted March 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to everyone for your encouraging comments - now I've got the camera in front of me, it really does exceed my expectations and the chrome looks great (I can always daub some black shoe polish on it to make it look more stealthy...) The imput is much appreciated - I'll pick out three comments but as said above, thanks to all for your encouragement !! Pete - the DMR seems quite happy with his new friend - they've settled in straight away and I think they went up the pub last night with a couple of Sony handcams... I caught them comparing image cards later but I'm not sure that should be encouraged...!! I see the cameras as complimentary, with the M8 handling the street shooting and medium to wide angle stuff, with the DMR coming into its own in telephoto, nature and street shooting where the extra focal length (or clubbing power) come in handy -19mm is another area that I'll probably reserve for the DMR. Rolo - I got the camera as a nearly new secondhand purchase, which suited my budget but means that there was no lens set thrown in - luckily I have a set of lenses that have made themselves at home straight away, albeit slightly unusual ones in that they are actually screw mount lenses that at first glance appear to work beautifully on the camera - namely 35mm f2 ASPH, 50mm 'lux pre ASPH, 35mm f2.0 8 Element Summicron (sworn enemy of the 35mm f2 ASPH ) and 50mm f2 ridgid Summicron. The interesting thing is that there is a whole 'form and function' thing, which carries itself over to the Digital format - the menus seem simple and intuitive, the screen is large and clear and the controls beautifully simple - worryingly, when I'm not doing my working imitiation I keep walking over to pick it up and look at it... and James - Yes, really finally got the M8 - great deal and customer service, I'd recommend TCC anytime. DaveSee Posted March 19, 2008 Share #22 Posted March 19, 2008 Many happy snaps with your new body(and nice lenses!)... yes, menus and buttons are nice, but the elegance of the M8 is not having to use them, always. rgds, Dave
luigi bertolotti Posted March 19, 2008 Share #23 Posted March 19, 2008 Thanks Steve I've gone for Chrome - it would be interesting to see what people's preference is, regarding Chrome or Black... Congratulations !!! Me too preferred the chrome... and NOT for the dealer had one... ... 2 blacks in stock at the times of my buy, and I had to wait 45 days for my chrome (and this was good... 45 days more on tight spare on current expenses )
