michali Posted March 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) M8, Telyt 135mm A very rare sight, a cheetah with 6 cubs (not all in the frame). This female has 3 cubs of her own and has adopted 3 other cubs whose mother was killed by lions. Looking at the excellent condition they're in she's clearly doing an amazing job, considering that she's hunting to feed herself and 6 cubs! Taken at Zuka game reserve, South Africa this morning. Thanks for viewing MIKE
Advertisement Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Hi michali, Take a look here Mother & 6 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chris_tribble Posted March 8, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 8, 2008 Well done - love this lens - maybe one day we'll get an upgrade option to the equivalent of the .85 finder on the M6 + framelines for the 135. Being able to carry the equivalent of a 180mm lens in such a sharp, small package is so good. Best

michali Posted March 8, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted March 8, 2008 Chris- Thank you. I really love this lens, framing & focusing takes some getting used to, but it more than makes up for it with its quality! FYI I also had my DSLR (Sony alpha 700 with the f2.80-200mm) & shot the same pics, despite the "benefit" of the longer lens in this instance, the Leica lens really wins in terms of sharpness and overall rendition. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Henri- Thank you, she is an amazing animal in terms of what she's managed so far with 6 cubs! They were busy watching some kudu which are too big for them to tackle. psquared Posted March 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2008 Mike, Excellent pictures. I also prefer #2. I wonder how the other cheetah mother came to be killed by lions. I wouldn't think that would be too common. Was she injured or sick? Or, maybe she was trying to protect one of her babies? Peter
michali Posted March 9, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted March 9, 2008 Martin, Al, Azzo- Thank you very much for your comments which are really appreciated. Peter- Thank you. This often happens with lions and other predators. They're competing for the same food source. I've seen lions kill leopards, hyaenas & wild dogs as well.
