jrh68uk Posted March 7, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I want to get a 28mm for my M7 and am heavily leaning towards the 28 Asph Elmarit. I understand that it was designed with the M8 in mind. Can anyone, who uses this lens with film, comment on its performance? I read that it's very sharp over the entire frame on the M8 but what's it like on a 24x36 frame? Many thanks in advance, Jason

Eelco Beket Amsterdam Posted March 7, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2008 It's a real nice and very sharp & small lens. Perfect performence for 24 X36. Welcome, dear visitor! kwpatlaw Posted March 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 7, 2008 Not to throw a wrench in the middle of everything, but i have an M7 and i just love the 35 cron asph. It has a wonderful bokeh and is sharp as well. Depending on how you like to shoot, it could be perfect for you.Give it some thought......
usefeet Posted March 9, 2008 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2008 The 28 Elmarit asph lens works very well with film, nice and sharp. I have been using it mainly with my MP film camera. Only at f2.8 is the 28 Summicron asph a little sharper (but even then it's difficult to see!).
jrh68uk Posted March 13, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted March 13, 2008 Thanks for the replies, everyone. I want a 28 for times when the 35 isn't quite wide enough. I have found recently that I just needed a bit more at times, but I don't want to have to bother with a separate viewfinder. The 28 Elmarit seems ideal; I'm used to the field of view and there's no way I'm spending £2K on the summicron. Cheers, Jason
mongrelnomad Posted March 16, 2008 Share #7 Posted March 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I quite like the lense - mostly for its size (and its price!). Although I bought it for my M8 (it is the only lense that suffers no focusing issues), I use it mostly on my MP. Nice and contrasty, if a bit cold...
