Artichoke Posted March 8, 2008 Share #23  Posted March 8, 2008 And if you really wish to see what is all in there (including the number of shots -'actuations'- been made with you camera; look at the very end) go here. Freeware, and also in English. PhotoME - Exif, IPTC & ICC Metadata Editor (Windows only )  thanks for the link to this bit of freeware the actuations are noted as the last number in the manufacturer notes, but this field is listed as "???" and not otherwise identified a useful bit of software I look forward to its further development

Jens D. Posted March 8, 2008 Share #25 Â Posted March 8, 2008 Hello Artichoke and vanhulsenbeek, Â thanks for the link to this bit of freewarethe actuations are noted as the last number in the manufacturer notes, but this field is listed as "???" and not otherwise identified You can get a new Leica database for PhotoME using the Online-update function (in PhotoME -> Settings-menu -> Online-update...). After the update is finished, the Maker Notes of the M8 will be shown correctly. Â Many regards, Jens Duttke Author of PhotoME
chris_livsey Posted March 8, 2008 Share #26 Â Posted March 8, 2008 This implies that one is able to shoot anything at any WB value when shooting RAW for post processing will be able to solve this without any loss of quality? Â Whilst that is absolutely true is it not the case that if the WB is off by a gross amount that will influence the histogram optionally seen on the camera screen (based on a jpeg processed in camera) and could lead to a misinterpretation of the exposure ? Â And welcome to this fantastic resource BTW
robsteve Posted March 9, 2008 Share #27 Â Posted March 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I may have missed it in some of the other posts, but the one thing that does affect image quality is exposure. Even though you are shooting RAW, try to get the exposure correct. In the case of the M8 and most better digitals, there is the option for a visual warning of over exposed areas. When this option is in effect, any over exposed areas will show as red in the image preview. Try to expose so that you have little to no over exposed areas in your images. Guest Ridder Cornelius Posted March 9, 2008 Share #28 Â Posted March 9, 2008 I found this out the first time I ever used the M8, without having read the manual. I previewd the shots I made on the screen and figured out it was broken, for parts of it lighted up red. It was also at this stage that I started reading the forum here a bit and read about some coloured fringe (forgot the colour) and thought "Oh my god, I now have red fringe !" But I then found out soon enough ..... I find this also a very nifty feature....
