"Well, M'Lud, I witnessed the accused at half-past four on the day in question in the vicinity of members of the public wearing apparel which I believed was intended to cause a breech of the peace. The harticle of said clothing was a tee-shirt bearing the words 'I'm a terrorist not a photographer.'

I approached the accused and proceeded to interrogate him as to the meaning of wearing such a shirt when the official threat of terrorism is at Oh-My-God Level but 'e was unable to provide a satisfactory reply as to the nature of 'is actions.

So I proceeded to bosh 'im on the noggin, feel 'is collar, and say to 'im: "You're nicked, My Son, I've got you bang to rights." whereupon 'e exclaimed "It's a fair cop but you'll never take me alive, copper!" and proceeded to wriggle violent-like until I pacified 'im with a gentle caress to the danglies with me baton, cuffed 'im and frog-marched 'im sharpish to the local nick, M'Lud."

The case continues ...

Pete.

What?!?!?!?!?!?! "Mass hysteria" and "fear" can be used to control and manipulate ?

GLAD THEY DON'T USE THOSE KIND OF TACTICS THESE DAYS ..................................

:D

Lead paint on toys? Bird Flu ? flu vaccine shortages ? terrorists ? water shortages ? global warming ? border infiltration ? Y2K ? satellites falling ? space junk ? falling planets ? armageddon ? floods ? politics ?eschatology ?.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

[Do Consultants get RICH ? Do papers sell ? Are election primaries influenced ? DO parents rule by guilt ?]

What's Truth ?

Are people really have problems trusting or believing anymore ?.

Danger! Believing may be Hazzardous to your health ! Especially if you are surrounded by a constant menu of fear and controversy.

Who was it that said, "The only thing we have to fear ......... is FEAR itself?" Shmaart feller, nicht ? Was it a past American President or was it Al Gore during the Florida "hanging chads" controversy ? Or was it George Bush who said that while justifying to the United Nations reasons for going to war in Iraq? I really can't remember anymore.

If you have faith the size of a mustard seed .............. Looks like the world has managed to create a stand-off between the Seed of Fear and the Mustard Seed.

I'm rambling.... I know ...... I have lots of naivete and people have said I go Much, Much too deep into things ............... But I'm just nostalgic for some old time Trust, Honesty and INNOCENSE in the world (as I experienced it as a youngster) so that I can PHOTOGRAPH IN PEACE.:)

Guten Nacht, Gentlemen (Hope I spelled that correctly):o

I would add to your list a moral panic stories of flu vaccine shortages, terrorists, water shortages, global warming, AND photographers, we are all doomed... as for 'Guten Nacht' - I don't think I'll be able to sleep at all tonight, n'Abend!

Only 101,248 people were stopped and searched under the Terrorism Act in England and Wales last year. One in 200 resulted in an arrest.

Guess how many resulted in an arrest for a terrorism offence?

Got it in less than 1.

A stupid, stupid law.

From an alternate point of view, it could be considered a very effective law, as it prevented any terrorism. ;)

The following excerpted paragraph is revealing and faintly encouraging:

"The debate about the proposed new power will be shaped by the memory of section 44. Some police leaders now accept they were too slow to realise the damage it was doing to community relations and to their own reputation, while proving of questionable value in catching terrorists. In 2009 more than 100,000 stops were carried out under section 44, but not a single arrest was made for terrorism under the power."

Pete.

That is a lot of police time as they have to provide a multi form receipt at the time and later database the information on their copy.

I'd note that St Pauls is probably not an iconic building but StPancreas is an iconic building.

If you were a terrirost all you have to do is to provide identification and be polite, so there seems to be a logic flaw somewhere...
