Police chief: Yes, my plods sometimes forget photo laws • The Register

Conclusion from El Reg: '...uch incidents represent a far more disturbing aspect of police culture. They suggest that a small minority of officers see the law as being "what they say it is", and these officers are quite prepared to take their chances, on the basis that the number of times they will be caught out by being recorded is likely to be few and far between.'

I've been in London for 3 weeks and have seen approximately 1000 DSLRs being used in all manner of touristy and blatant ways. I might say I've seen nearly as many DSLRs as I have cctv cameras!

I have read this entire thread with interest, but I can't say I have seen innocent photogs being inconvenienced by the Met's marauding policemen. Could that be a sign of a loosening of policy?

Come on, Pete. You know better than to venture into Daily Mail territory... ;)

There is more to that story than meets the eye. The driver has "previous".

Not that that condones the extreme action of the police in this case, of course.

How does this relate to photography, though?

Good to see that they have got their priorities right.

Robert Whatley's 'car window smashed and OAP dragged out by police officers' | Mail Online

I watched this with disbelief.

I think they should break a lot more black Range Rover windows. Only a criminal or an idiot drives one.:D:D:D

Yes, something smells particularly piscine here: after his Range Rover had lurched forward and knocked over a police officer "... he then drove off because he thought the matter had been dealt with ..."

And, "The police followed him for 17 minutes, during which time he did not break the speed limit. Mr Whatley said he thought the blue lights and siren of the police car meant the officers were giving him an escort home." Yeah, right.

There looks like more to this than meets the eye.

Pete.
