bill Posted March 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been in touch with Shirley Britton, Madam Chairman of the Disabled Photographers' Society. She told me that, by Sunday night (2nd March), the Paypal links alone had raised more than £350 for the DPS. I am confidently expecting the postal donations to more than double that figure. Shirley has sent this message of thanks to the participants and generous donors of this Forum. Regards, Bill One wonderful Leica Day, through participant photographers donations, has given the Disabled Photographers' Society, funds towards help with a specific project. Thank you. The DPS, as it is fondly known, has wanted its own barrier free studio for years, the committee and I decided this was the year we are going to have it! This year we celebrate our 40th Anniversary 1968-2008. In our ranks we have some International winning photographers alongside people who just want to make special pictures, we are united by disability, but diverse in our subject of photography. We are brave, resourceful photographers, with help we can make beautiful pictures. The studio which will be open to all, located in Bristol, England, in a place called The Vassall Centre Trust, which in itself, a charity set up to provide barrier free environment to enable people with disabilities to work, volunteer or help others. This is a big project for us, but one we are up to the challenge of. Thank you to everyone who has helped make it possible. This is a picture by Mike Birbeck FRPS, FDPS, our DPS president, which sort of sums up our determination.... I hope to use it on our DPS the first 40 years, book cover. I hope this is of help to you.... Shirley Britton FDPS ARPS Madam Chairman DPS Welcome, dear visitor! Michael-IIIf Posted March 3, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2008 A great response and great to participate in - thanks for organising it Bill. Two things occur to me: The distribution of participants is interesting, obviously Europe and the USA are well represented but look at how numerous the entries are from the Nederlands. I never knew there were so many Leica fans there! I'm also intrigued by the many entries from forum members I've never heard of. These are members who obviously visit the forum enough to have read about Leica Day and equally obviously own a camera but never post to the photo sections. Come on guys and galls, you've managed to post this time, let's see some more Michael
dhsimmonds Posted March 12, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2008 Bill, many thanks for organising this extra special Leica Day. It was great fun. My local club have print and slide battles with the DPS , they are a great bunch of people and terrific photographers........they usually win too! It would be interesting to know the final total value raised by "leica day" .
