Where to but the Digilux 3 in the USA?

...A local store has three in stock at $2,500 each. Not sure why they won't come down in price...

Leica has a very strict MSP policy in place for dealers. All dealers are required to sell at or above MSP for all new Leica products. That, and like most camera brands (N and C especially), there is very small margins. You'll leave more tipping your waiter at a restaurant you got mediocre food at than you will purchasing a Leica camera from a dealer (percentage-wise). Hopefully, your dealer gives you better advice than your waiter. If not, you may want to find a new dealer that does.

Interesting David. You would think leica would have a fire sale on these. Like I say, my local dealer has 3. Has had them for quite some time. No one is buying them. I would if the price were lowered. Thanks

I remember back in the late 70's new unsold M5's still being available in camera stores, years after production ceased. I should have bought one back then. I really like my Digilux 3!

Anybody know who has this? Does leica have an incentive price for it? A local store has three in stock at $2,500 each. Not sure why they won't come down in price. Thanks

...have you checked ebay, etc?...or going with the lumix version (heard the L1 will be re-released at around usd1,200)...

When I asked the salesman at B&H the other day he told me to "look down in the Point-and-Shoot department."

The salesman probably confused the Digilux 3 with the DLux 3. Leica should make the names less similar sounding.

Possibly, but I was asking to try an Olympus Zuiko lens on either a D3 or L1 body.

Seriously, why would you want to buy a Digilux 3?

I bought my Digilux 3 because it's the ONLY currently available DSLR that I don't find to be really ugly, and which has all its controls where they belong.

That would be immaterial, of course, if the camera didn't produce beautiful images. It does.

If you're chasing the highest tech specs, or if you need excellent high-ISO performance, or more MPs, or if you can't deal with the small viewfinder, there are better choices. If the Digilux 3's specs are sufficient to your needs, and if you want a camera that feels and operates like a camera, there is no better choice (apart from an M8, but that's a whole different category). I find that I take more pictures, and better pictures, with a camera that gives me a high-quality user experience.

Well put and your reasoning works for me and my Digilux 3 also.

SAMY'S have you really had good luck with them? I guess I should try them again. In the past I have found them to be sort of obnoxious whenever I tried to bargain with them.

Yeah, I find that when I go into a restaurant and try to bargain for lower prices than listed on the menu they get a little obnoxious, too...

Seriously guys, there is extremely small margin in cameras, a high-cost item that requires a high level of knowlege and expertise. As I mentioned above, Leica has a strict MSP (minimum sales price) policy. Dealers do not have room to negotiate.

Too bad for the dealers and to bad for consumers. Especially on "old" technology like the digilux 3. Leica should give them flexibility to clear stock instead of just letting them sit on shelves.

...think that's why they had a loyalty discount coupon program for existing leica customers...may want to try this route if the program is still on...
