No problems at all! The best use I have experienced is with the R glass. I have a 50 Lux that I use in low light & it renders incredible portraits with ultra fine dof for night shooting. Just leave the lux wide open and shoot. The kit is rather small compared to the D lenses and travels a lot lighter as well. I use the finder & it is always bright with this lens.

Add me to the list of D3 owners without any problem yet. And, as most of the others said, I like the camera very much, the design as well as the handling. Just one disadvantage, for me it is too noisy using the AF or liveview. But I never regret to have bought it up to now and it is my 'everyday' camera now. I own the D3 for a year and in addition to the kid lens a have the 1.4/25 mm lens.

Regards,

Andreas

does anyone have experince with the oly 50-200 / 2.8-3.5 ed lens ? is the newer swd faster on the D3 ?

rich

The old 50-200 works well but makes the D3 style body nose heavy.

The new 50-200 is faster focusing,

I love my Panasonic L1K.

I have had a problem with the 14-50 lens however. It is now loose when I go to 50mm full zoom. The front (movable) part of the lens can go side to side 1/8 of and inch. Also in zooming from 14 to 50 it sometimes stops at about 18 like there is a stop there. Wiggling it a bit will get it to move.

I just sent it to Panasonic for repair under warranty.

Other than that I love the camera and I am considering getting the 25mm lens.

Hi,

good thread.

My Digilux 3 has no problems so far - apart from the stated quirks:

1. AF sometimes slow - even if center only

2. AF pretty bad in low light

3. viewfinder too dark (would love a replacement for that only)

4. noisy under higher iso.

I do love the handling of the camera and it has a definite charme that makes me - and everyone around it! - want to touch and hold it.

It is its retro feeling and looks that makes me love it.

I do see a slightly loose kit lens, when zoomed out.

Up to now I thought it was me who was overrating it, but reading in this forum I think I should go to the dealer have a look at it!

All the best

Martin

I have the Digilux 3, the Digilux 2, and the Digilux 1

Don't you find the ergonomic better on the D2 compared to the D3 ?

My L1 is brand new (only trial shots till now) but I find it less "comfortable" than the LC1... (especially the wheel)

I tried the L10 : far better with 2 wheels (1 for program shift, 1 for exposure shift)

The D3/L1 has an aperture ring and shutter speed dial which, for me, are superior for thoughtful exposure control than modern day wheels. If you do not value those controls and the Vario-Elmarit lens, then the L10 or if funds allow the Olympus E3 is your logical choice.

You're right, but I'm just saying that I find the D3's wheel too small...

And having "traditional" controls AND big wheels is also possible :)

Agreed - I'd miss them - and already do when I use Oly lenses on my L1.

But I'd like to see a Digilux 4 with such a bright view finder as the E3's (my next body I'm afraid).

Anyone tried the 14-150 so far?

Yes, I agree with you on the Digilux 4, I hope one comes out with a brighter viewfinder. However, after reading the latest LFI article on the 4/3rds system, I suspect that won't happen anytime soon.

No problems with the Digilux3 at all.

No exceptional noise at higher ISO settings, unlike some mention.

Would prefer to be able to shoot RAW or JPEG rather than both in the RAW mode.

Otherwise very pleased and the quality of results speak for themselves. I have two Olympus lenses as well as the 14-50 but the latter does almost all I want from a lens.

Cannot agree with you more. Which Oly lenses do you use??

I have 11-22 f2.8-3.5 marginally wider than the 14-50 but usefully so

50-200 f2.8-3.5 quite heavy but a cracking lens.

I moved to the D3 from Canon 5D and feel I have a better camera. The main reason was weight issues on the GP's instructions to find lighter kit. Being an 'M' users it was an obvious step, especially as Leica UK were giving £500 discount on the D3 at the time.

I'm just recovering from a serious operation to a hand and can bear the weight of the Leica but would not have been able to handle the Canon.

Another satisfied DL3 user here. See bottom line for gear lineup. Summilux 1.4/25 will arrive shortly. Guess I'll close the shopping list after having received the latter.

No troubles at all during the 15 months I've been using it.

The 11-22 has become as much of an always-on walkaround lens as the kit lens lately, OIS or no.

I use Olympus lenses as well as one Sigma on my Digilux 3.

The 14-50 kit lens, 11-22, 50-200, 18-180, 7-14 and the Sigma 30mm 1.4.

All are very good but the 7-14 is a real hoot to use as is the 30mm.

No, problems with my Leica Digilux-3 - I have been using it for 14 months without any issues. Room for improvement in some areas - higher ISO performance, ability to turn shutter speed wheel in both directions & same with wheel on the back of the body when using Olympus lenses to switch quickly from F22 to f2.0 or vice versa (you have to go up and down), higher shutter speed, 16:9 aspect ratio (without cropping please), wheather and dust seals, 3 inch screen (>900k pixels), and more autofocus points potentially.

Very tactile experience, I have never taken so many photos, do not mind the sound (actually I quite like it - more so than some other electronic sounding DSLRs). I would like to see some more lenses for the 4/3rds system (possibly more compact) from Carl Zeiss and possibly Schneider Kreuznach (made in Germany). I would be thoroughly disgusted with Leica if there should be no D4 in which case I would instantly switch to the next Olympus body (following the E3) or pick up at that point an E3 body. Also I am not happy about the lack of communication from Leica re. their plans.

I use the following equipment with the Leica Digixlux-3:

1. favourite lens - Summilux f1.4/25mm - great flexibility, DOF, sharp

2. 2nd favourite - Olympus f2.0/50mm Macro lens - suitable for a range of apps - also sharp

3. Olympus f4/7-14mm or f2.8/50-200mm SWD - both are recent additions cannot say which one I prefer. Both work well with the D3. I would have liked to have gone for the Leica 150mm but it was not fast enough (3.5-5.6) for my liking.

4. For some reason I rarely use the Leica f2.8/14-50mm kit lens, maybe it is the type of photos I take but I seem to no 1 and 2 above most of the time.

I also use the Olympus EC20 (2xteleconverter) and the Olympus EX25 extension tube as well as the Olympus FL50 flash unit (plenty of light). My D3 backup camera is the Leica Dlux-2 (love it sexy little thing, makes great images at low ISO, in my view better than the Dlux-3 images especially at higher ISO).

My 5 cents worth.
