Mauribix Posted February 25, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello guys, i really don't know if it's possible to find an adapter for Leica R lenses on Nikon's cameras. Do you have some news to share? Is it possible? Is there an adapter? I didn't find any on ebay, so I'm just wondering.... Thanks Maurizio P.S. If you did this, what is your experience?i.e. what is the "must-have" R lens on a Nikon camera? Best
Advertisement Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Hi Mauribix, Take a look here R-lens on Nikon cameras.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted February 25, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2008 AFAIK there is no such adapter for Nikon bodies, only Canon. However there is a Nikon F2 on the Cameraquest website which was modified to an R mount. Not sure what the story is behind it though.
spydrxx Posted February 25, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2008 I had thought, at one time, that it was possible. I found a web thread of a photographer who had apparently had success with it and contacted his wife (he apparently is deceased). Se mentioned that around 2002-3 there was a fellow in China who produced an adapter which he had sold on E-bay. I attempted to contact the guy in China, based on the info given to me...he and his company no longer show up on E-bay, nor on any web searches I've done. My own analysis indicated the adapter would need to be 0.5mm in thickness, but it seemed to me that the diameter of the R lens was too large to fit into a Nikon F mount. I finally gave up. If you have success, please post your results for us to follow up on.
andybarton Posted February 25, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2008 I think that the throat on a Nikon is a smaller diameter than an R and therefore there is no way to make a lens fit. If an old Nikon body has been adapted to take an R-lens, that would involve some pretty major surgery, I'd say. If it were possible, there'd be adaptor rings available, just as they are for Canons. The fact that there aren't, must tell its own story.
spydrxx Posted February 25, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 25, 2008 Maurizio - my error. I found the old message and it was about an adapter for the R lenses onto a Canon FD mount, not the Nikon mount. Sorry for the confusion.
wildlightphoto Posted February 25, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 25, 2008 I read of one tinkerer on photo.net who made a custom F flange to fit his R lens after removing the R flange. Short of doing major surgery to the camera body this is the only way I know of to use an R lens on an F body and retain infinity focus. The lens would be manual only, no auto-diaphragm, and some R lenses might foul the F's mirror.
Mauribix Posted February 25, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted February 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you all guys, Your answers has been much appreciated. Unfortunately the conclusion is that we can't do it (without a surgeon as well!), my aim was to convince a friend of mine to use his D80 with some R-lens, but maybe it would be easier to convince him to change the camera when a new digital-R is out! Thanks a lot to you all, Best Maurizio
