gravastar Posted May 7, 2008 Share #63 Posted May 7, 2008 I'd like to come if no one minds. I know Oxford quite well but where is the Turf tavern? Jeff I assume this is the esteemed establishment Turf Tavern, Oxford - Pub Website 7 Bath Pl Oxford, OX1 3SU 01865 243235 I'm hoping to make it but I'm not sure yet. I've a lot of jobs that have to be completed by Tues 13th so I'll see how it goes between now and the 10th. Bob.

andybarton Posted May 7, 2008 Share #66 Posted May 7, 2008 I'm afraid I am going to have to pass on this one. Only one day out with the boys per week, you see Anyway, I have to stay in this weekend and wash my hair.
farnz Posted May 7, 2008 Share #67 Posted May 7, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) What a shame, Andy. ... Hair <sigh> ... I remember hair. Any of our other friends from the north planning to attend ... ? Pete.
dhsimmonds Posted May 9, 2008 Share #68 Posted May 9, 2008 I'm afraid I am going to have to pass on this one. Darn it! I was banking on Andy bringing his DMR so that I could try a battery as my charger has gone on the blink and is now on holiday in Milton Keynes. Both my DMR batteries are now as flat as pancakes! Never mind, my trusty old LC1, now on it's second sensor and been around the world with me twice is still going strong and with a very robust charger and two batteries. Cost a fraction of the DMR.........makes you think a bit! See you all tomorrow........forecasting a scorcher of a day too. Dress attire on their web site looks good to me, just my sort of pub, not a tie in sight! (hope that they serve cider though!)
gravastar Posted May 9, 2008 Share #69 Posted May 9, 2008 Is the meeting time at The Turf agreed to be about one o'clock for a light snack/lunch? The reason I ask is if people want to see the Ansel exhibition and play tourist then the time spent in the pub is likely to be short, so there's a chance that early or late arrivals would miss everyone. It would be better to specify a time window in which to meet, say 1-2pm for example. Bob.
farnz Posted May 9, 2008 Share #70 Posted May 9, 2008 Sounds good to me, Bob! (Will everyone else who agrees hold up their hand please? ) Pete.
dhsimmonds Posted May 9, 2008 Share #71 Posted May 9, 2008 13 00 to 14.00 hrs is OK for me! So hand held high! :)
delander † Posted May 9, 2008 Share #72 Posted May 9, 2008 I will be there probably nearer 1 than 2. How will I recognise anyone will you be waving a Leica flag? Jeff
dotandcom Posted May 9, 2008 Share #73 Posted May 9, 2008 I will try to get there at 12.30 and bag a table outside, to the left of the pub as you stand looking at the entrance - warm weather is forecast. I'll probably be wearing a navy (Oxford!) blue shirt, plus a broad smile if the beer is up to standard. For the unwary, don't bother trying to park in Oxford unless you are only spending three hours there. You can park for three hours round the corner from the Turf in Mansfield Road (for £3 in the meter, I think). Otherwise you would do better to use one of the park-and-rides that are on the N, S, E, & W edges of town. They offer a regular, quick bus service into the centre. Looking forward to seeing everyone. gravastar Posted May 9, 2008 Share #74 Posted May 9, 2008 I will be there probably nearer 1 than 2. How will I recognise anyone will you be waving a Leica flag? Jeff I'll probably have a naked chrome/dark green M8 over my shoulder and a camera bag of goodies. Bob.
farnz Posted May 9, 2008 Share #75 Posted May 9, 2008 I will be there probably nearer 1 than 2. How will I recognise anyone will you be waving a Leica flag? Jeff I'll be wearing a typically daft expression and a black baseball cap with "Leitz" in red on the front. (For those who recall a previous meet, the loincloth will be replaced by 'long trahsers'. ) Pete.
delander † Posted May 9, 2008 Share #76 Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks, I am sure I'll spot you all. Can I bring my 5D no I did not mean that LOL, if its going to be hot I would not want to be carrying it around anyway. For anyone that has a bit of time to spare the Museum of the History of Science in Broad Street has some old photographic equipment in the basement displays. One of my favourite museum's but that is another story, Jeff

spylaw4 Posted May 10, 2008 Share #79 Posted May 10, 2008 I'll be wearing a typically daft expression and a black baseball cap with "Leitz" in red on the front. (For those who recall a previous meet, the loincloth will be replaced by 'long trahsers'. ) Pete. Given the weather forecast I would have thought that the loincloth would have been more appropriate, Pete! Hope you all have a great day - alas I can not be with you .
