Try finding the font of my website. There is a little prize for the winner :);)

Maybe it's worth a try asking the fella who did this:

Leitz-Norm numerals - A snap from Aen - Forrst

LEICA SUMMILUX-M 50 mm f/1.4 ASPH. - A snap from Aen - Forrst

Dribbble - LG 1050 by Aen Tan

Note he made just the letters he needed for the Summilux 50 image.

While building my image borders in lightroom, I tried to find the font, too. I just ended up picking something that's close to it and make it red. On mac, it's called "Pilgiche.ttf". Judge for yourself.

Damn, this is an old thread - it's what happens when you google a question.

Slight change of question, what is the font used in the title and thread headlines on THIS forum? And this text...

It looks like fine version of Arial MT std

As often stated, the Leica font is entirely proprietary. There are fonts that are quite similar to the casual user, but still very different to a type-face expert. The lettering on top of the camera is, ah, lettering and not a font, per se.

We disagree, ekgurbuz, but that's good because it might provoke others to look for closer approximates.

I would look into EuroStyleExtended, Isonorm, Microgramma, and NeogramExtended. None perfectly match the closest, LF 1050,  which is entirely incomplete, merely a tease.

The logo is one-of-a-kind, not a typeface, unfortunately.

Just found this old thread and had a look to my system. How's that?

I think this one comes the new original Leica font very close.

It's pretty close, but not completely. It's easy to overlook important characteristics and small nuances. The number 1 was quite similar, but the number 4 is very special: the left stroke goes straight up, which is pretty uncommon. I've heard that Leica use a custom variant of a typeface called LG1050, but it is probably not available for purchase.

However, this one is a fairly exact copy of Leica’s engraving.

I am a former typographer and am used to looking for such small distinctions.

Co-incidentally I also studied typography as part of my Graphic Design degree. I loved the subject and have been fascinated by typography ever since.

It would be interesting to see what Leica's upper-case Q looks like. The one in the 'Full Stop' version posted by yourself has a distinct form which is very different from this version here;

post #32,

"5" is not the same !

I don't think any of the available fonts are completely similar to Leica's engravings, they are just imitations.

Once I made available on my homepage the original Apple Garamond font which they use in their advertising. It didn't took long before I got an email from Apple that I had to remove that font immediately. 😬

Yes; I know. That's exactly why I posted the picture in post #35......

Leica owns the font; no-one can create an exact copy. In the text which accompanies the typeface in the above link they say;

"Vintage Leica lens font, close to the LG1050 font. You will get what you see."

Philip.

I wrote my MSc dissertation in a certain Garamond font. It looked very nice. :)

But the picture wasn't there when I started quoting you. When I finished writing, you had added a picture, so my post became a bit redundant. 😄
