Gerald Lowle Posted February 21, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I purchased my new Leica R9 I could see that the plastic cap ends on the nylon neck strap could potentially scratch the body with rubbing. Being the fussy chap that I am, I acquired some self adhesive black Velcro and using the soft side, cut a small patch to fit over the inside of the plastic caps. Works a treat and you wouldn't know it was there!

jaapv Posted February 22, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 22, 2008 Of course the real solution is Luigi's no-metal neckstrap :
bill Posted February 22, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2008 Doesn't the R9 have anti-rub inserts??? Regards Bill
stunsworth Posted February 22, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2008 Well, you have to protect the protectors from getting damaged. In Jaap's case I'd be more concerned about the leather in the eyelets wearing as the camera is used and the strap snapping.
masjah Posted February 22, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2008 Doesn't the R9 have anti-rub inserts??? Regards Bill Bill Yes indeed, and they work well. However, the R8 is a different matter; it too has anti rub inserts, but they are far too narrow adequately to protect the body, and the strap fasteners do still rub. I let them - my R8 is a working camera. (Clearly this was recognised by Leica in widening the protectors on the R9.)

I've got all my cameras on these straps (except the DMR/R9) and the only thing this leather does is get a bit shiny and polished. It is clearly very good quality. peter_n Posted February 22, 2008 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2008 Well, you have to protect the protectors from getting damaged. I would just let it get nicked up and not worry about it. How can you use the camera properly if you're worried about every little possibility of a scratch?
rob_x2004 Posted February 22, 2008 Share #9 Posted February 22, 2008 So Jaap, without trying to permanently occupy the moral high ground, how much was the repair bill for the dropped M8
