blau4666 Posted February 16, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted February 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a D-Lux 3 last year and now it seems the sensor is gone?? I had a Digilux-2 which also had a failed sensor and I paid to upgrade to Digilux-3 and now this?? Â I am wondering if anyone had similar problem with D-Lux3 and its sensor. I am very disappointed with Leica's quality. I am now paranoid about taking it on my trip. My Digilux-1 is still working, I wonder what is wrong with the newer models. Advertisement Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi blau4666, Take a look here D-LUX3 Sensor??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spylaw4 Posted February 16, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted February 16, 2008 We need a slight clarification here! Digilux 3 (D3) is the 4/3 dslr offered by Leica as an upgrade for D2 owners whose sensor has failed. D-Lux 3 is a (sophisticated) small "point & shoot" style camera, not to be confused with the D3. The two abbreviations are not compatible. Â Are we to take it that your Digilux 3 sensor seems to have failed? If so I have not heard of any previous problems. blau4666 Posted February 16, 2008 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 16, 2008 I am refering to the small point and shoot D-Lux3. I already ran into the sensor problem with Digilux 2 and took the offer from Leica to upgrade to a Digilux 3. The Digilux 3 is still working, but it is the D-Lux3 that I bought around the same time as the Digilux 3 replacement that failed. I am just wondering if there is a similar problem going on with D-Lux3 like the Digilux 2.
mjh Posted February 16, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted February 16, 2008 I am just wondering if there is a similar problem going on with D-Lux3 like the Digilux 2. There is no known issue with the D-Lux 3 sensor (which is a Panasonic sensor, unlike the Sony sensor in the Digilux 2).
blau4666 Posted February 16, 2008 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 16, 2008 Thanks mjh. I just hope this is not things to come for all D-Lux3. It started with streaks across the display and then it just stopped displaying any image in picture taking mode. It will play back with no problem. I am hoping it won't take too long to repair. I bought the D-Lux3 becuase I had to send the Digilux 2 for repair. I have a trip coming in April, hopefully it will be repaired by then. I need to have the both the Digilux3 and D-Lux3 to back each other up, you just never know when one will fail. That or I will have to take along the trusted Digilux 1 too. Thomas Edwards Posted February 17, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted February 17, 2008 ...leica's strength has always been in its lenses and film cameras...i continue to take the cm as a back-up to any digital camera...and, like you, have been taking the d-lux3 as a back-up to the digi2 (which now works perfectly after the sensor change) or digi3...am sure leica will replace the d-lux3 sensor and that it will be as good as new... blau4666 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Share #7 Â Posted February 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I guess there were already some cases of dead sensors. earleygallery Posted February 18, 2008 Share #8 Â Posted February 18, 2008 It started with streaks across the display and then it just stopped displaying any image in picture taking mode. It will play back with no problem. Â Surely that's a problem with the LCD panel, not the sensor if its recording and playing back the images?
blau4666 Posted February 19, 2008 Author Share #9 Â Posted February 19, 2008 It will only display what was already in the SD RAM, but will not show anything when I switch to record/picture taking mode. Â I called Leica this morning and only got voice mail. Left a message hopefully someone will call back. I have a trip in April and would really want it fixed before then. mobilexile Posted April 9, 2008 Share #10 Â Posted April 9, 2008 My D-LUX 3 is in for repair. The nice folks @ Leica USA said it was a shutter issue and are happy to fix it. Problem is the timeline for repairs is six to eight weeks. Bummer, I miss my wonderful D-LUX 3.
