thrid Posted February 15, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simple question. Should there be a strip of foam on the roof of the SL mirror box, to dampen the impact of the mirror? Yes? No? Maybe? Inquiring minds want to know. ejd Posted February 15, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2008 There are greater experts here than me, but the answer is no. There's no foam at all in an SL or SL2.
thrid Posted February 15, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted February 15, 2008 interesting. I just took a close look in there and you're right. I don't even see any space where foam would fit. But it is somewhat odd. You can distinctly hear the mirror hit the metal guide rail. Even a simple piece of felt would have greatly reduced the noise. mooky Posted February 16, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 16, 2008 Hey there,,, You are all correct - there never was any foam used on the SL families. They had what is best described as a mechanical braking system that slowed the mirror. If my memory serves me correctly, they even had an illustration of it in the brochures, and mentioned the fact that they didn't use foam to stop the mirrors like the other companies......an excellent method, and expensive to produce....and a little noisy....
