Paul0303 Posted February 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Given the availability of great deals on 2nd hand cameras these days I wondered if anyone had bought a new R9 (as in brand new) lately, or plan to, for use without DMR? roguewave Posted February 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2008 Paul, I use an R8 with my DMR and had been looking for a second body to use for film & to serve as a ready backup for the DMR, should something untoward come out of the skies & harm my gear. I tried out several R9's around NYC. Not really much different to me from the R8. Lo & Behold I found a R8 for cheap on Ebay, but the item came from Germany and took almost 3 weeks to sail here. PRISTINE, in the box. She is just fine and I have a roll of Illford inside the easy loading bay, ready for action. If the ice melts and the gale force wind calm down, I should be in the streets. The difference in price made my jaw drop. The collectors are on the prowl. I think this is the best 35 SLR I have ever had in my hands. The R glass helps to make that so! Gerald Lowle Posted February 14, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2008 Hi Paul Yes, I have fairly recently acquired a brand new R9 (black) with Leica's 35-70 Vario Elmar, and have just added the 28mm f2.8 Elmarit R. This is my first Leica and I must say that I am delighted with it in all respects. The viewfinder is second to none and provides a stunningly clear uncluttered image. Anything else you wish to know?....Gerald

Gerald Lowle Posted February 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Ben....I have posted a few images in the Landscape section, by now they are well down the page numbers. These were from scans that I had done when the slide film was processed, now I have my own scanner, an Epson V500, I should be posting more, which is fun and always good to get feed back, positive or negative, it all helps!....Gerald

rob_x2004 Posted February 17, 2008 Share #8 Posted February 17, 2008 Bit of a shame the DMR was a one hit wonder. Get something right, put it out to pasture:o. If Leicas other reinventions of the wheel are anything to go by it will be long time before a clean R9 comes out.
