farnz Posted November 16, 2010 Share #21 Posted November 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know if there is a code for the CV 15mm, and for a type 1 50mm summicron? Does it work with a CV M-adaptor? There is a cutout right where the code dots should be. For the CV15 use the code for the WATE, which will bring up a menu on the LCD from which you have to choose 16, 18, or 21 mm. Intuitively 16 mm is the best match with CV15 but many forum members prefer to use the 21 mm, which they say renders better. Personally I haven't noticed much of a difference. There's no code for the 50 Summicron version 1, only for versions III, IV and V, so I'd suggest using the code for the version III since it will make no difference to the image and will only be useful in identifying the lens in the EXIF data. If you also use a version III then, well, I dunno. It doesn't work with the CV LTM to M adaptor because of the cut out but it does work with the type II, which has no cut out. You can find the codes very kindly provided free by Carsten Whimster here. Pete.
Advertisement Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Hi farnz, Take a look here M coder kit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
badmuts32 Posted November 17, 2010 Share #22 Posted November 17, 2010 The coder kit didn't work for me. I used the pen that is included in the kit. I coded a elmarit 90 mm lens. The coding is very easy, after a few hours of waiting for the ink to dry I tried the coded lens. It did not work. When I mounted the lens on the M8, the coding was scraped of. I tried several times also on other lenses, but it just didn't work, THE coding was always scraped off when they were mounted on the body. The 35 mm and longer lenses I use are not coded, they work fine. My 28 mm elmarit lens is coded. When I'll buy wa lenses they have to be coded. I ended up selling the coder kit. Just my 2 cents. I agree that the coder kit is sometimes not effective, especially when a lens mount screw is positioned in the area where one of the black marks is supposed to be located. However, I have had good results using the kit to code C-V M-lenses which have a shallow relief ring milled on the outer edge of the mount, and various LTM lenses used with the C-V Type II M-adapter which have a similar relief ring. This keeps the areas which have the black coding marks from rubbing against the camera body mount so they last much longer. Regards, Jim
