sean_reid Posted September 7, 2006 Share #61 Posted September 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only one I liked was the Oly E-1. That was a TRUE professional's dream - smaller build, tough weather sealed body, big viewfinder. I have no idea why Oly is not updating it at all.... I really like the E-1 too. I suspect the delay has to do with getting the sensor and related electronics to perform as well as needed at high ISO. But that's only a guess, I haven't had conversations with Oly for a long time. Cheers, Sean
Advertisement Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Hi sean_reid, Take a look here Panasonic L1 review in Amateur Photographer this week. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
albertwang Posted September 7, 2006 Share #62 Posted September 7, 2006 Yes, Sean is back Okay, do tell us that the L-1 is a fairly good professional camera that can use studio strobes. Spasiba!
sdai Posted September 7, 2006 Share #63 Posted September 7, 2006 In fact, are we planning to rebrand all those zooms 35-70 f3.5 28-70 f3.5-4.5 as Minolta and Sigma? Ok, I have to eat my words just to remind you all above items you've just mentioned are notable POS as recorded in Leica's Book of Shame.
albertwang Posted September 7, 2006 Share #64 Posted September 7, 2006 Amen. Amen... Of course, I guess that I'm a Leicatraitor for owning that Sigma zoom eh? Okay, today is that 24mm R one... It's gone by gones.
sean_reid Posted September 7, 2006 Share #65 Posted September 7, 2006 Yes, Sean is back Okay, do tell us that the L-1 is a fairly good professional camera that can use studio strobes. Spasiba! Hi Albert, I'm afraid that I haven't had a chance to work with the L1 yet. Cheers, Sean

rob_x2004 Posted September 8, 2006 Share #67 Posted September 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simon, I saw that you were going not respond to Albert no longer. Please keep it up, all of you. It has been so long since Leica site had a megathread. C'mon only thirty and a half more replies. Hey what is this thread about anyway? Anyone? Anyone read any of it? Guest stnami Posted September 8, 2006 Share #68 Posted September 8, 2006 Things will tick on as long as people put vaguely relevant stuff on it like Be it so but the E-1 is still a large camera so why go 4;3 when there are cameras around that enjoy low light and produce less noise, sure it is water resistant but most cameras are if you don't take them into excessive conditions. Maybe Leica got desperate This is all meaningless tripe but someone responds eventually and so the thread goes on ps I haven't read it only your bit, my bit and another few bits
albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #69 Posted September 8, 2006 Again, it's a balance between number of megapixels and size... personally the E-1 was very awesome for its handling... buttons in the right places etc. etc. And bulletproof The L-1 should be similar. In fact, I'm surprised that the people here who prize manual control don't care for this. It stuns me... But alright, whereas the masses are deluded by the Canoon tennybopper, I'm shooting some backlit scenes with pleasure.

MJLogan Posted September 8, 2006 Share #71 Posted September 8, 2006 I'll keep things going here... The megapixel.net review can only be called a rave, but they seem to have given the camera only a superficial workout. While it's nice to see somebody really loves it, I'd rather have seen a more comprehensive review.
sdai Posted September 8, 2006 Share #72 Posted September 8, 2006 The megapixel.net review can only be called a rave, but they seem to have given the camera only a superficial workout. I absolutely agree with you, Michael ... and it doesn't meet Albert's review standard obviously. I fail to understand ... how can anybody give it a 10 on something? what if Panasonic launches a L2 tomorrow, will they give it 11, 12 or 13? were they measuring on a 100 full scale? albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #73 Posted September 8, 2006 Indeed, I am going to wait for Sean Reid to review the L1 thoroughly. He is the type of guy who will look at the lens in good detail and compare it to other regular R zooms. I am willing to bet that many reviewers who touch the L1 don't even have a clue about what a Leica zoom does.
TimF Posted September 8, 2006 Share #74 Posted September 8, 2006 In fact, I'm surprised that the people here who prize manual control don't care for this. Huh? So we have a horizontal rotating dial against a vertical rotating dial. Apart from the orientation, what's the difference? And we have an aperture ring against a control wheel on the rear of the camera (which incidentally is the only ergonomics thing I dislike about my 5D, as I'd prefer to set both from the main dial as I do with my old 1N), but really, so what. The E-1 is indeed a very nice camera - apart from the placement of one button, which irritated me in the time I borrowed one. If it hadn't been for that I might even have bought it. albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #75 Posted September 8, 2006 The 5D sucks in all the button placement. I tried it and hated it quite a bit. And then again Cannon is similar to Windows Vista. Sexy ideas packaged in a flavorless delivery. For example, all those custom functions bugged me. I like direct simplicity and at least Olympus was smart not to confuse the photog using the menus. (Nikkon, you sux there too!) I stick to looking at what a camera does. Cannon lenses have no aperture rings. At least Nikon does. So there! (And Olympus you need to correct that too buddy!) In fact, the L1 is just right. An actual aperture ring and shutter speed dial. What more can you aks for? Isn't that the prize dream of Leicaflex users?
albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #76 Posted September 8, 2006 I just did a small poll. It's about 50-50 at the German Leica forum on whether or not they plan to get it. Looks like they get better reception in Deutschland than in the States.
bill Posted September 8, 2006 Share #77 Posted September 8, 2006 Oh for goodness' sake! It's "Canon" with one n. Unless of course you intend to mount a "Lense" to the front of the damn thing. Regards, Bill
albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #78 Posted September 8, 2006 Da, I know that Cannon is supposed to have one "n". It is my deliberate mispelling of this behemoth that I have dubbed it "Cannon" instead of "Ca*on". Spasiba.
bill Posted September 8, 2006 Share #79 Posted September 8, 2006 Albert, a "joke" that only you get is pretty pointless. But, if it makes you happy, so be it. Regards, Bill
albertwang Posted September 8, 2006 Share #80 Posted September 8, 2006 Not pointless, esp. to non-Cannonfanboys.
