Okay, I just used the Leica A La Carte configurator, selected United States and English and the base price shown is $4600. When did this happen? Oh my God.

EDIT: Sorry, apparently this happened a couple months ago. I had no idea. Is this just for a la carte? I'm in shock. Absolute shock.

The German "à-la-carte" program too has higher prices for the "basic" version of the MP/M7 than the normal price.

But when You consider that the normal price for a new viewfinder is about 700 € outside the à-la-carte" program this seems reasonable.

Well, no because the base price for an MP or M7 through the a la carte program is $1000 more than a stock MP or M7 before adding any options. Previously it was the same price as a stock MP or M7 which made sense as that is the starting point to which you would add options. Now there is a $1000 charge just for the honor of customizing one. You could go though the configurator selecting nothing and you would still be paying $1000 more for a stock model. This was not the case previously. Adding a .58 viewfinder is an additional $180 which brings it to $4780. Also, if this had anything to do with exchange rates the stock MP and M7 would have gone up by the same amount as well.

The difference between what I paid for an MP .85 and all of the lenses I have purchased over the past few years and what I would pay for them if I purchased them today is $15,000.00.

The point is that previously a stock MP or M7 would cost $3500 and through the a la carte program it would also start at $3500 because at that point they are the exact same camera. Only after adding custom options would the price increase which made sense. Now there is a $1000 price difference between the two without even making any changes. In fact, you can go through the a la carte configurator selecting nothing and end up with a stock camera for $1000 more. It just doesn't make any sense. I can understand a small fee for the "privilege" but $1000 is just insane.

I now suspect this is simply a way to put an end to the a la carte program. "People weren't using it anymore!" Leica will say. Well of course not!

Maybe I didn*t make myself clear (or nobody read my post):

1) You don*t have to buy a alacarte Leica

2) They raised the basic amount for the alacarte program but the prices for the addons are cheaper than they are without the alacarte program

3) e.g. the 0,85 viewfinder costs 700€ regularly, but only 180€ in the alacarte program

4) got the point??

But imagine you want a mp with just a .58 viewfinder, normally you would pay 700€ more,

but when you place the order over the alacarte way, you pay 1180€ for your viewfinder..

what a great deal

My point is that you now have to pay a $1000 entry fee regardless of how significant/insignificant the option is. This is a terrible way to have it set up. The prices for leather appear to have changed very little if at all. If what was once a $380 option is now $350 it doesn't make it a better deal if you now have to pay an additional $1000 on top of that. $1350 for leather? Get the point?
