After a quiet (dull?) period in this forum the last weeks, the upgrade program has made the forum explode with negativity again. Half-dead nostalgists moan about missing the early film models, anti-capitalist progressives moan about profits (do you want Leica as a company to survive?), full frame freaks moan about changing the sensor (why did you buy the M8 in the first place, didn´t you read the specs?), broke people who paid 5000 dollars for the M8 moan about the upgrade becuse it is too expensive (why didn´t you buy a cheaper camera? what about some financial planning?), the upgrade OFFER is percieved as a dictator´s decreet (I can barely imagine the reaction if an M9 were released with higher specs now, depreciating the M8 at least by half)....

With "friends" like this, who needs enemies? Get a life (or take pictures)

Hear ye !

LOL

Peter,

congrats on your new camera and lens. I own and use (when I'm not busy compulsively reading this Forum) the 28 'Cron. It's just a superb lens. Both on film and digital. You'll love it. As for the second M8, I envy you ;)

Knd Rgrds from Amsterdam

Thanks for the kind words and support, Peter. I sure hope it won't be too long before I get to return to Amsterdam with the kit in tow! Next time I promise not to miss meeting you. best...Peter

I vote with Erling.

His post is witty and accurate. Each category of nay-sayers is aptly named.

My golly-wumpus, gynes and dudes, it's amazing to me how much heat an innovative idea can generate so quickly. There's a lot of analysis of the good and bad aspects of the "perpetual upgrade" program, but there is a lot of vitriol as well.

Suggestion: When you feel negative, try to analyze why. Don't just say "I'm angry because that guy cut me off in traffic." Go further into yourself and try to figure out why THAT bothers you--do you feel that's your space? do you feel his driving endangers you? do you feel you can't stoop to such behavior because your car is better than his and he has calculated that into his offense? What is the basis of your anger?

Do the same here. If you're having a negative response to Erling's post, look at yourself. My bet is that you'll find you're in one of the groups he named.

And he did so with great analysis and wit. If you come back in a week and read the post, I think it will bring a big smile.

Thanks, Erling!

Howard, sorry but I can't second this. I think the same forum's negativity is present in Erling's post too (if we want to call it negativity).

The only thing that's been confused for negativity is such a sort of disappointment due to the price of the upgrade and finally its real need (in the way it arrived). This may or not be sharable, but maybe this forum is the right place to let Leica knows everyone's thoughts.

I can't see nothing negative in this, really.

Maybe Erling's frowing at the way people wrote his disappointment, but he could eventually skip the "hurting" sentences and keep on reading the next thread or post, even more because this is what he wrote some months ago:

No, I'm not talking about lens filters here, but a new function I would like on the Forum, sort of the opposite of the Buddy list, where I can personally filter out people who I consider of no value (or less than that) to the forum.

Personally, I am not new to photography, but I am fairly new to Leica. This forum it a great source of learning for me, but like in most learning environments, they work best without "poisonous" comments from consistently negative people who seem to be of some kind of hunting expedition.

When certain people consistently behave like this over time, I would like to filter them out.

Is there, or can someone make such a filter?

So, since I can't find myself in any of those groups, i really don't get joy from such a "j'accuse!".

By the way, this forum's "negativity" revealed fruitful in many ways, the first one, we can see, it's the Guy's list that he suddenly sent to Solms and NJ, that, since the first one was too, it's gonna be another excellent "fruit" for M8's owner, and Erling's gonna make use of it too probably.

I just hope He could bear such a negative fruit when shooting!

Best Regards

Maurizio

I guess I only get what I asked for when people start dissecting my earlier posts ("childhood") in true psycho-analysis manner:eek:

Personnally my "therapy" today has been a long ski-trip in the forests north of Oslo. The only problem is that it is so beautiful that it is difficult to take pictures that are not mere clichèes.

On a more serious note, yes, I think this forum has a strong tendency to escalate into very negative discussions and comments. At times, it really bothers me, because I think some of it is unfounded, unrealistic, speculative, and even aggressive. Some may enjoy reading/participating in this, I don't. If Maurizo wants to label me as negative because I criticize this type of negativity, well, what can I say?

I do not deny that constructive people (like Guy) can extract useful information from this, and feed it back to Leica, so that we all can benefit, but I have a hard time understanding why this form is necessary.

That's all, really.

The true psycho-analysis manner it's your way to calculate the medium of my posts and get the "1,77 post par day result", it's somehow dramatic and rancorous indeed. And i guess this is not positive as well, or am I wrong?

Nor it was the title and first post of this thread. If it isn't so, I apologize

You ask for the plant of positivity while seeding the seeds of what?Taking a ride to the forum's members?

I always appreciated people who get the responsibility to criticize in particular, involving only the single men (but that's just my thought), without generalize, because when we do so,we can't but hurt someone (with all respect), and the answers to your first post did show this from many guys here.

But if this forum bothers you, just take your decision, live with or without it; but please don't believe that irony is not as aggressive as the form that you're pointing out.

Best regards

Maurizio
