psquared Posted January 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took these pictures at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, California. Neither was technically optimal and required some postprocessing. R9/DMR + 800/5.6 Thanks for looking, Peter

stuny Posted January 30, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2008 Peter - Both are exquisite, and I've saved them to send to a friend who rescues and rehabilitates injured wild animals, specializing in raptors. I'll let you know what she says.

elansprint72 Posted January 30, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 30, 2008 Peter, These are both very good shots. That is a big lens, do you have it it a mount, or hand hold?
michali Posted January 30, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 30, 2008 Peter- Excellent pictures! Lovely details & lighting. This bird looks very similar to the Black Shouldered Kite found throughout Southern Africa. Well done. MIKE
albert Posted January 31, 2008 Share #7 Posted January 31, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peter, Unfortunately, these photos just make me feel worthless. Why should I even bother to point my Digilux 2 or my D Lux 3 at a bird? I can't think of any good reason to waste the time. Fortunately, your photographs teach me what is possible with fine equipment.... and more importantly....... with skill, practice, talent, and dedication. psquared Posted January 31, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted January 31, 2008 Peter,These are both very good shots. That is a big lens, do you have it it a mount, or hand hold? Thanks, Pete. Yes, the package is big and heavy, and I definitely need to use a tripod with a gimbel head. I doubt even our governor (Arnold Schwarzenegger, for those you who are in the dark) can handhold the setup and shoot for long.
psquared Posted January 31, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted January 31, 2008 Peter- Excellent pictures! Lovely details & lighting. This bird looks very similar to the Black Shouldered Kite found throughout Southern Africa.Well done. MIKE Thank you, Mike. Yes, this is very similar to the black-shouldered kite. At one point, these two plus the black-winged kite in northern Africa, Asia, and Europe, were considered the same species. (I just learned these through Wikipedia. )
