The "Bozos" that move on to the next bigger/better thing are doing so as a competitive business decision. No one buys something this expensive unless they are making money with it, or are doing open heart surgery @ $100,000. a crack and photography is their hobby : -)

I just returned from a Las Vegas vacation, and at the last minute put away my MP and took the H2D/39 instead. I had done a Leica Vegas thing before and wanted to try something different. Took the camera, a 50, 100, and 1.7X, which all fit in a Lowpro Omni Traveler ... a bag I can't fit a 1DsMKII and lenses into.

In answer to the 22 verses the 39 meg ... My H2D was a 22 meg before being swappped out using Imacon's upgrade plan. The 22 meg is a wonderful back and would be more than enough for just about any situation.

Hi Billh,

It's a labrit.

These are the hardworking shepparddogs of the perenees.

Its father ( Pitchoun ) and mother ( Belle ) i've personaly imported from the south of France.

This is one of the 24 pups out of three nests.

The only one my girlfriend and I kept.

We've finnished breeding now, back on the camera.

It took me a while to think of an avatar, but our barking friend Dakar so much resembles my hairdo, that I knew when I saw this picture, this had to be my icon.

Wraff...

Interesting. I have never heard of a Labrit. I’ll have to look them up.

My buddy Niko came from the Brittany - Lorient region of France when he was 11 weeks old. He was not keen (to put it mildly) on the culture change, or his travel accommodations, but has since acclimated nicely. He is the guy in these two photos:

This is his daughter Kona, experiencing her first snow.

It will end soon, at least using current types of technology. They're already near the wavelength of light now on a pixel density basis. The 39 MP is only achieved because someone is willing to pay $30K for a very large sensor, basically a very expensive chip.

If revolutionary technology comes along that can overcome the limitations of the laws of physics, then who knows?

I disagree.

Hasselblads 1 pixel has 1,8 x bigger pixel ( e.g. area of one pixel in square millimeters) than for Example Canon EOS 1Ds MkII and whopping 8 times bigger pixel than Leica Digilux 2 has. This means that D2 is approaching the "wawe-length dimensions". Hasselblad has huge number of large-area pixels, what allows to take hi quality shots also in low light. Not to mention, that shots are printable in unprecedented magnifications. What concerns the price -- lots of photographs tend to rent this equipment on day basis for special projects and not to own one. As business jet or smthng...

Brand/Make H L S Mpix Spix

Hasselblad 38 Mpix 60,0 60,0 3600,0 38,0 95

Leica D2 6,6 8,8 58,1 4,9 12 7,99

Panasonic DMC-L1 13,5 18,0 243,0 7,4 33

Epson R-D1 15,6 23,7 369,7 6,0 62

Canon EOS 1ds 24,0 36,0 864,0 16,6 52

Just returned from my trip. Took the H2D/39 and a Leica D-Lux 2 ... two ends of the spectrum of digital photography. What a blast it was to use both.

I'd say that when the M8 gets here 75% of my digital work, both professional and personal,

will be done with these two cameras. And there will always be a place for the little D-Lux when on vacation, etc.

If you have never done MF digital work I urge you to just rent a kit for a weekend as a pure self indulgence. Shoot the family, hike in the woods this fall, or whatever. It'll stun you.

Here's a shot taken from my 8th floor window at the Red Rock Hotel in Las Vegas using the H2D with a 100/2.2 & 1.7X (=170/4 ) @ ISO 400.

I'll post a Leica D-lux shot when I get to processing those.

Here's one from the Leica D-Lux 2. It's a shot taken during Franko Dragone's "Le Reve" at the Winn in Las Vegas ... which allows non-flash photography, and announced that fact prior to the performance.

The Leica was set to ISO 400 using the 16/9 aspect ratio panoramic mode , the lens zoomed wide to 6.3mm @ f/2.8 using aperture priority which selected 1/100th shutter speed for this shot (the anti-shake feature was on). Obviously no flash was employed.

A bit of noise in the dark areas which needed some selective anti-noise work. However a respectible print was easily made to 11" wide. For sure good enough for our vacation album taken where no pro camera would be tolerated.
