michali Posted January 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) M8, Elmar 90mm lens @ f11 ISO160 Zuka game reserve. Temperature 39 degrees C today. I went down to the river & found these elephants having an absolutely wonderful time playing & cooling off in the mud. Thanks for looking. Advertisement Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Hi michali, Take a look here Elephant Series . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Artichoke Posted January 14, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 14, 2008 glorious creatures in the wild they do look like they are having a grand time & so did you the colors & details are excellent it looks like you had a great deal of light ...still I might have opened up the lens a bit to get more shutter speed in order to "freeze" the mud better such as on the last photograph (my favorite ...it looks like you connected with your subject)
michali Posted January 14, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted January 14, 2008 Arthur- Thanks very much for the feedback, much appreciated. The light was quite harsh with a fair amount of broken cloud so plenty of glare. However you're absolutely right I should have opened up the aperture a bit more & got more speed. I do love elephants, they're always up to something and always aware of your presence. I'm really pleased I managed to connect with this big guy! Thanks again. stuny Posted January 14, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 14, 2008 Mike - Terrific, and typical warm weather behavior well documented. I have some similar ones on both our Namibia and Botswana pages. Elephants are very amusing to watch with those behaviors.
imported_peter_m Posted January 15, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 15, 2008 Looks like you all had fun playing. Nice pictures Mike. I assume they are not all that shy since you managed the shots with the 90. Peter
michali Posted January 15, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted January 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Arthur, Azzo Stuart & Peter- thanks for the feedback. These big bulls are normally quite relaxed and konw that they can deal with you if you piss them off. It's the females that you have to watch out for (the story of our lives), especially if there are calves around. These guys are especially relaxed as there's no hunting in the area. I'm using my old 1954 Elmar 90mm here, mounted on the M8 and thoroughly enjoying the challenge of photographing wildlife with the 90mm as opposed to using the bigger lenses which I have access to on my Sony Alpha 700 DSLR.
