Agreed.  I eventually realized I could use the Q3M to learn where some of the settings are now, but there's a lot of major changes in a pretty expensive bit of electronics to not release an updated manual at the same time.  Especially considering the median age of your average Leica user is 112. 😉

Does anyone experience a lock-up/spinning icon when going from a user profile back to the default profile?

FWIW: Been exploring this for a day now.

A variety of senarios tried in differing combinations. (battery in/out, resets, save/export/import profiles, clean SD cards).  I can get (at times) the profile switching from a saved profile to default to work well, may times over, then seemingly for no reason I can figure out it goes back to hanging the camera.

Usually between all seemingly working well and hanging up again I have adjusted something in the camera (earn a star by the profile number) but not anything I can repeat with certainty.

Once I earn my star, I can select the same profile again and have not had the hang up (sometimes it is very fast to change , some times a second or so of the "Circle of Death" graphic stays on but it eventually switches.  I have noted that usually when I get that second or so of circles going from a starred profile to the saved profile, if I tried to then go to default it would usually hang and when the change from starred profile back to saved profile was instantaneous, then switching to default and back again worked well.

If I export then import the saved single profile I also was blessed with profile slots 3-6 showing up as used, all having the default profile.  Odd because I actually could not save the default profile manually to a user slot.

If I fill up all 6 profile user slots with various permutations of my initial saved profile and export them, delete them from the camera, then import them, they all reload as expected.

I have never had a hang up going from saved profile to default and back again if I made the change in the main menu system and not on the LCD screen in any way for the change over.

Would seem odd but could be that either something in the camera, once used, may still be in "deep memory" (despite firmware update, resets, etc.) that is playing poorly with the profiles aspect of the updated firmware (could explain differences in user experiences) or some combination of settings, changes, etc. made when using the camera causes issues with profile settings.  Both would likely need a firmware fix.

Good news is that, at least for me, there is really no reason when using the camera to switch back to the default settings, and I can essentially use the camera as I would like to with a couple of saved profiles and making changes on the LCD menu boxes as needed.

Focus peaking is tucked away in Info Profiles, so you can have one Info Profile with peaking and another without, then cycle through the profiles using the centre button - if that’s how you have programmed the centre button. I suspect that is how Leica intends us to manage Focus Peaking. Personally I would rather just have the option of having it inoperable when using AF. Meanwhile I’ve switched it off for all Info Profiles, and will dive into the menu for those rare occasions I use MF.

The second issue is that I no longer see the image number when reviewing photos

I noyiced this also and could not find a repeatable setting that turn this off or on.  What I did find is that the default profile which has the image/file number showing on the playback screen is "Info Profile" #4 (under "Capture Assistants").

Even if I duplicated the settings that are listed as being "on "or "off" for "Info Profile" #4 to any of the 3 other slots, I could not get the image/file number to show up.

I ended up just adjusted the settings in "Info Profile" #4 to what I wanted to see (both in the EVF when photographing and in in the playback LCD screen) then tuned a couple of other "Info Profile" slots to my liking and now can toggle through the screens I want to see both for photographing and playback.

Dear Leica,

Please:

Fix the focus peaking so that it can be applied to manual only (and not shown in playback).

Fix the playback on portrait/vertically shot images so that are shown vertically.

And pretty please with sugar on top, fix "Profiles" so they work well on cameras that have been out in the field and have been used prior to the update! (i.e. not just testing new cameras in Wetzlar). ❤️📷:)🙏

I have one profile I did over, and it did not have the freeze issue when going to the default profile. I saved it to the other profiles that were causing the freeze. The freeze is no longer. I just have to adjust the other profiles to my liking

Must be a setting that was in the old firmware with the profiles that ver 4.0 does not like .

Maybe I am being a whinging girl here but the common thing i notice that when sony release a new upgrade they also release on the day a new instruction manual to reflect the changes. Half these quesitons we all have could be answered if LEICA SUPPLIED AN UPDATED $#@% MANUAL!

A new manual appeared in my Fotos App at about the same time the new firmware was released.  Don't ask me if it is current. :)  Talking about being a whiner, I can't help but think they wanted to release this firmware before their holiday break (assuming they get a holiday break) so they could have two weeks of fun and relaxation.  lol.

The more I work with this firmware version the more I think of Microsoft Vista.  lol.

Hey Leica, if you read this....I only use focus peaking in manual focus, i do not want focus peaking on when I am in autofocus as i am relying on your focus algorithm, plus i want to see a clean scene and not full of peaking. How do I only have it set to manual focus only?

Please use the app and write Leica directly. They might read these forums, but if their inboxes are filled with this request, they might get to it. thx

Fotos

Noted in a thread here that the Fotos app will start the Q3 with ver 4.0 firmware with the camera in the off switch position. I have confirmed this. I noted that when I exited the Fotos app the green led on the camera stays on. Thought perhaps the power saving settings would turn off the camera, this was not the case. FYI.

LOL, THE CIRCLE FROM HELL................................so true. I am getting Apple Beachball of death and windows blue screen of death vibes now with this firmware update. Not happy Leica that you released something that is obviously not tested..............or is it Panasonic firmware ;)

Not excusable but now we have 1000s testing it and Leica will get hit hard with feedback and should be working on fixes.  No showstoppers for me but it did come out of the oven too early.  I didn't expect to have half baked cookies pre Christmas from Leica.

In the previous firmware on my Q3 43, I had the back button (right) set so I could toggle between file sizes - 60.3, 36.5, and 15.8 MP. It is still available

in my saved user profile. But with the new software the first right back button is now set to toggle between photo and video. I can't figure out how to reset.

the button to the configuration I have in my saved user profile which I would like to do. Can someone guide me to the instructions please?

Thanks

Howard

A bit of a (tentative breakthough):

Could not let all this sit without more exploring and set everything for profiles back to "square one". No saved profiles.

After all the playing around over the last day, I am now fairly quick at setting up my main desired profile SO I set it up, one step at a time, saving at each step and while in the "User Profile" settings called up the default setting.  Went back to the LCD screen and tried switching between profile setting #1 (the profile I was building) and the default profile.

After the first change (simply changing the PAMS mode choice button box on the LCD screen to Perpective) there were NO problems with switching profile back and forth.

Went ahead and made a number of changes, saving and testing after each change.

The one change I found so far that seems to always cause the profile change to end up in the "Circle from Hell" is if I set the FOTOS setting to "OFF".  Did this a few times , changing from Off to Eco or Performance.  When in Eco or Performanceand and the settings saved to my profile, no Circles of Hell (so far).  Change back to FOTOS "off" and it's back to Dante!!.

There may be other menu selections that when added to a profile could cause issues and it may be that I will pick up the camera tomorrow and it will not behave the same way but for now I'll leave FOTOS in Eco mode and carry on. (I do not use FOTOS when photographing so in the past had my default setting as "off").

Press and hold down the right back button, this will show you a list of everything you can assign to that button.  You can also go into Customize Camera in the settings and remove all the things you don't want to appear in this list if you know they are things you'll never want to assign to a button.

Does anyone know how to center the AF point on this new firmware? The previous function doesn't seem to work.

If you have AF Touch on, you can double tap the screen to recenter the focus point just like in previous firmwares.

Press and hold the button, as it’s always like that to set the function,

Leica FOTOS App refuses to Pair with Q3-43 with the following error "Connection failed due to an unknown reason. Please restart camera and app and try again. Contact Customer care if the issue persists."

IOS version 262.2 and Q#-43 firmware is 4.0.0

Tried uninstalling Leica FOTOS App with same results.

Also deleted MEV1 camera on the App with the same results.

Any help appreciated.
