I haven't tried the lens but it would seem to suit your purposes and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned, given the cost might be worth a try.

I don't know anything about that lens but I have to assume that at that price it's not a true competitor against something like the Summicron-C or similar, but I'd love to be wrong.

Yes of course, but it depends on how much you value autofocus, given the price surely the option is there to have both😄.

The Minolta is the current front runner so I'm OK with manual focus *IF* it's worth the effort. In the case of the Minolta, it's small and it has an IQ that's somewhat unique. I'd buy that lens for the visual effect, but if I had my way it would also be AF.

One more non AF lens, the Voigtlander Nokton 40 f1.4. The ffo1.2 gets the press but this is a nice inexpensive lens. I mostly use mine on an M3. With the CL, I prefer a wider lens but for this range I like a 35mm and 50mm better. For 35mm I have a Leica pre asph Summilux and a Zeiss Biogon f2.8, both small lenses, for 50mm I have a collapsible Summicron and a 55 f1.4 7 Artisans.

Have both the Summicron 35mm and the CV Color Skopar 35mm f2.5, which is more compact. The 'cron has a good rendering, although had to be shimmed due to back focusing. The Skopar also needed shimming, but once done, is lovely and gives nothing up to the 'Cron. These are small lenses, the CV the smaller of the two. Recommended.

The 40 ( the single coated version ) was the first lens I bought back in the day for my M3

So the Voigtlander has multiple versions, too? The Minolta does and it's been a challenge to get the sellers to identify precisely which version they're selling. In the Rokkor's case I'm looking for the later version.

Yes the 40 was sold as single coated lens but there was also the modern multi coated version too.

Is lens flare an issue? Do you ever wish you'd bought the multi-coated version? It's sometimes tough to know what's a *real* issue and what's just hyped on the internet. Some swear by the multi-coated version and suggest holding out for that one. Others say the difference is negligible.

I didn`t have the multi coated version to compare but I don`t recall having any flare issues with the single coated version.

I guess that it could be more prone to flare but that would be dependant on use of course .... I never found it an issue though .

I was mainly using it on the streets of Manchester Uk ... not known for its sunshine so that might of been a contributing factor for the absence of flair  :)

The Voigtlander Nokton Classic is a great lens. I preferred the single coated version for a more classic look. Why the Leica-TL 23mm Summicron doesn’t get more praise is beyond me. I own most lenses in the TL range but the 23 is almost permanently attached to my CL. The combination really sings. Perhaps I have a really good (early, mine is a Summicron-T) copy, but It’s one of my favourite lenses of all time.
