LichMD Posted January 12, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted January 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been thinking about switching my wired NAS for a Drobo connected wirelessly to my MBPs. I was wondering if anyone has already implemented this and what their experience has been like. Thanks

Sandokan Posted January 12, 2008 Share #2  Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Jeff  Avoid wireless. It is an unsecure medium unless you have access to digital certificates for authentication & a radius server.... I know the newer technologies claim to be more "secure" than WEP, etc. but forget the claims. Denial of service is trivial even if it is not harmful but is still a nuisance.  Also it is a shared media, so the maximum quoted speed is the theoretical maximum & even a single user with no other wireless networks will have a throughput of about 60%.  With these two risks, the benefits do not outweigh the advantages ... even if it means laying a 400m fibre cable  ravi
