huwge Posted January 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it possible to use the Leica universal polariser with a 24 elmarit? I might be being dim, but I can only see adapters for the E39 and 46 lenses or something for the W/MATE. Thanks Huw
Advertisement Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi huwge, Take a look here Polarising Filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Kasimir Posted January 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2008 No. I don't know why Leica designed it this way, but for anything bigger than E49 You have to use other Polarizers. I'm using a Heliopan ES77 polarizer with an adapter for E55.
huwge Posted January 13, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted January 13, 2008 Thanks - will buy a step up adapter, as I have a circular polariser from my SLR system. I guess you have to chimp to see what effect you are getting. Huw
fotohuis Posted January 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 13, 2008 You can use this Heliopan converter (Leica filter view) 77mm, to 55mm and then the necessary (step up) adapter(s) for the right lens. The 77mm polarizer is a very common diameter in SLR. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1383/929534234_08afc2f14c.jpg
Kasimir Posted January 13, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 13, 2008 Please note that the Heliopan adapter has "holes" that allow You to see through to assess the effect of the filter.
rickp13 Posted January 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 13, 2008 i'm also in the process of putting together step-up adapters and polarizers for my m8 set. current thinking, based on input from several threads and magazines: 1) i bought an inexpensive linear polarizer to hold in my hand, and plan to "calibrate" it with the polarizing filters for each lens by placing a marker (white paint?) on the filter rims to indicate maximum effect. in practice, turn the handheld filter to the desired angle/effect (10 o'clock etc), then turn the filter on the lens to the same position. a bit cumbersome, but accurate? 2) the leica WATE filter holder currently advertised in the forum classified ads has two cutouts. maybe it's possible to bore 1-2 holes in a step-up adapter so that the polarizing effect can be seen while focusing through the rangefinder? anyhow, good luck! rick

No need for fancy "extra"equipment in the hotshoe or in Your hand
rickp13 Posted January 13, 2008 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2008 hello kasimir thanks for your input. i didn't know about the heliopan step-up adapters with holes when i first wrote, but they sound like a good solution. i also have some 72 and 77mm filters left over from dslr days. kind regards rick
fotohuis Posted January 13, 2008 Share #9 Posted January 13, 2008 Leicagoodies have them in a complete set (from Heliopan) for most R.F. cameras. www.leicagoodies.com ==> STEPS Here you can also see the pictures when fitted on the M camera. A pretty nice solution. I am using the Leica View nr. 381 (Heliopan) 77/55mm Then the step up nr. 194 55/46mm (for the Elmarit 2,8/28mm and my new Summarit 2,5/75mm) and if necessary the step up nr. 245 46/39mm for the Summicron 2,0/50mm. Using the Heliopan polarizer SH-PMC circular ES77 (Also for Canon prof. L- lenses) it's a perfect combination.
