Hello everyone.

Firstly I am new to this forum and would like to say hello from the Yorkshire Dales England!

A friend of mine has lent me a Leica Q typ116 for a month and I am hooked.

So I am busy selling surplus gear to raise the money to purchase one.

In England they sell for between £1500 and £2000 a considerable sum for a 10year old camera.

I thought I would contact Leica to see if they still service this model.  The answer was unfortunately NO!

Therefore it is a bit worrying one could buy a camera which if it went faulty would be a very expensive brick.

I'm afraid a Q2 or Q3 is way out of my price bracket.

How reliable have users found the Q ?

Any thoughts welcome.

Only you can answer that question for yourself.

Hmmm.  I've had a Leica 116 for seven years, thousands of frames and no issues.

Who at Leica did you speak with.  We are a Leica dealer in Canada and deal with Leica USA in New Jersey.  According to them they still will service the 116.

I would call Ivor Cooper at Red Dot Cameras in London, or Dave Stephens at Leica Manchester. Both are incredibly knowledgeable and highly recommended for straight answers.

i might add Manchester would obviously be much closer if they recommended dropping it off to them for inspection.

Actually my experience has been that the entire Q line is pretty much bulletproof.  Buy one from a dealer (like MPB - there are others) who offer a 6-12 month warranty.  Check with the Leica Store in Manchester and see if they have one.

Initially i bought in 2019 a Q and 3 months later i could buy a new Q2 and consider the Q2 as a considerable better camera.
I would wait to get the money to buy a Q2 and for my use i see no reason for replacing the Q2 with a Q3.

Thats interesting ! I sent an email to Leica customer service Germany.  They offered to sell me a Q3 with 30% discount instead!

You should contact the service department directly, not customer service.  Of course they would rather sell you a new camera…customer service is essentially the sales department.

Well, money available and lust for spending such a amount, this would be a very good deal as almost 2K off.
Not sure what the selling price for a used Q in nice conditions is, but i would guess nowadays less than 2K.
In 2019 i bought my Q for 2200 CHF and sold her 3 month later for 1800 € as discount for the Q2,

The Q is basically a great camera with some flaws, particularly age and the bad viewfinder and mine had dust inside the viewfinder and i would expect that after a while you wan't the Q2 or Q3.
I suggest you to rent a Q2 for a day to check for the differences, that will make clearer if the Q would be enough.

You’re asking the wrong person.
