    • I'm not interested; I'll stick with the classic M.

    • A Leica without a rangefinder? Not an option for me

  2. 2. What do you think on Leica's decision to dispense with the rangefinder with the M EV1?

    • It's the future – EVF should become standard in the M system.

    • Good alternative to the rangefinder, more choice doesn't hurt.

    • To each his own – I'm fine with either.

    • Risky move – could dilute the character of the system.

    • Wrong signal – contradicts the basic idea of the M.

Which is basically an USA thing - Before the advent of EVs which are transmission-less by nature I had never even driven an automatic vehicle - Oh yes -once, when visiting the USA. Hated the thing.

Hmmm. 70% of new car sales in Europe are with automatic transmissions now, so it's not a "USA thing". I own a BMW M2 Competition now (and have owned MGBs, TR6s, a Honda S2000, other BMWs, etc, all with manual transmissions). Its automatic is far faster than anyone with a manual and I can use the paddle shifters on the wheel if I want more involvement. So its performance is simply better and more flexible (trying driving a manual in Wash, DC traffic). My point is technology progresses and R&D invested in technology (I am a Chief Technology Officer in a high tech company) is almost always based on a demand signal. So for Leica or any other company to invest in R&D is almost always based on a demand or market survey. I control R&D expense in my area and we don't so "science projects". I'll bet the M EV1 sells better than the naysayers are indicating. If the focusing aids allow me to focus my 135 APO consistently it's a win for me. So the appeal (for me) is an M-sized body with 100% viewfinder with all lenses.
