Leica M5 -rangerinder patch

Hi. I want to ask if it's possible to buy and replace the rangefinder patch for the M5. Mine is messy, with some scratches. And sometimes it's difficult to focus with it.
I guess Leica can do it, but it will be expensive and take a long time.
It's perfect otherwise, it's just this that's a bit of a problem.

If it needs repair, then this is possible at a good service centre. I can recommend Kanto Camera in Tokyo for the M5, I am sure others are good as well.

If you are in Europe then Amsterdam Camera Repairs is a good place to start. The chap there is really responsive and helpful on email too so you should be able to get an idea of whether it is possible and a feel for the cost/time.

When Don (DAG) serviced my M5, he told me there are no parts available for the viewfinder, and that the M5s are all starting to show some degree of separation in the finder. It is a slow degradation process, and his advice was to live with it…as there’s no repair option for this problem.

That's a shame, as the M5 finder is a marvel. Mine is still bright and crystal-clear, at least for now. The M5 RF patch is unique, with rounded sides to help show the meter spot, so another area where the M5 parts are different from the other Ms. Between this and the shutter curtain roller issue its weaknesses are showing.
