Hi all

How ok is it walking around with M gear in Cape Town nowadays? I'll be heading there next month with my wife. I have been before but that was 10 years ago. Our accommodation is in Camps Bay and Franschhoek. Besides the standard precautions of not walking around dodgy areas at night, is there any other considerations that people with some experience of using their expensive gear there would suggest?

Cheers!

Hi Costa! Walking downtown is pretty much safe. (Security every ~50m) Walking in the suburbs -Woodstock, Observatory- could be a bit more problematic, but there are safer areas as well. I would say, the city improved the general safety in the last 10 years quite remarkable.

Regards,

Torsten

I was there earlier this year but brought the SL2 and I had no issues between downtown Cape Town, Camps Bay and driving around to other towns like out to Cape of Good Hope etc. We took a number of Ubers around town and sat outside at restaurants and I never felt that it was riskier than other major cities. I'd exercise normal precautions.
