I wanted to post a shot taken with the SVE SL 14-24 but could not find any dedicated page to this lens. I have searched other topics previously and couldn't locate them on the Forum only to be shown later that an existing thread did exist. I had a good look and zilch.

So here is the page for images and discussions around this very interesting and somewhat bulky super wide lens. I have a great deal of fun with this lens and occasionally get serious by squeezing every ounce of Leica goodness from its massive glass.

I took this lens on loan for a few days to confirm or deny my suspicion that it could be dark horse and a lens at a reasonable price.

The Sun was high in the sky on this spring day when (according to Railway people) I captured some brand new grain wagons just off the boat. They are classified as "cleanskins"  which is to say, not one line of graffiti on any of its surfaces. The lens works well in such contrasty light I think.

24mm f5.6, iso 320 1/2000 sec

Nice shot!

I’m considering this lens now given that I’m going to Alhambra palace next year that has very tight space there

Sounds great Elliot. The 14 mm FL is just that little bit wider for tight spaces. Leica Perspective Control works down to 16mm so some clever footwork in photoshop can balance out the extreme perspectives.

Enjoy the trip

I am also struggling between this 14-24 and APO SL 21mm. I am debating if 21mm alone is good enough for this trip alone. If it is, I would rather get that because it's much smaller (about 30mm shorter), but of course it's doubled the price.

Hello Elliot, far be it for me to enable anyone’s desire for all things Leica but that’s what I’m about to do!

From a person who owns a 21 Super Elmer and Leica SVE 24-24 let me tell you how each lens of the lenses deserve a place in one’s kit. Each lens including the Apo Summicron 21 SL has  a practical place in anyone’s kit with a caveat around owning the 16-35 Elmarit Lens.

Hello, I could obtain the SVE 14-24 for a reasonable price. For me, it does an extremely good job. There is very little, if any, distortion. This may be due to in-camera and Lightroom corrections. These pics were taken at the Le Corbusier building in Berlin.

I think it's a very good lens indeed hdokgst. It's a bit heavy I guess. Sometimes I want to take it with me in the city because it's great fun to use. I end up taking it out of my bag before leaving home because it's just a bit heavy. There is already one of the SL's with a lens in the bag and another on my shoulder. Im only thinking about myself and my shoulder carrying that weight.

Hand held vertical Pano with the 14-24, I don't like most of the uncorrected for parallax images. I do have a tripod with levelling pano head and sliding system however I might use that when the building in the image is complete. What I am trying to show is the ability for the files using this Elmarit 14-24 are "malleable" with a reasonable ability for heavy post production. Depending on the image, denoise can be implemented at the beginning and some at the end, or my "artists impression" look which I attempt, has several stamped up layers holding each PS filter and the file size gets ridiculous.

Like most lenses, it takes some work to get the best results in your style of work. If a lens wasnt capable of producing an effect I apply, it ends up one filing cabinet. I want sure that I was going to be disappointed with this lens as there wasn't much online about it. I spent a few street hours with it and put files to the test. I bought it the next day.  I was hoping it was going to be a dark horse lens in that it would be a surprising find and relatively inexpensive. I felt that way with the Super Elmar M 21 a decade ago. The 21 SEM is an unassuming lens in the kit but has a unique quality which suited me. It wasn't an overwhelming discovery for the Leica 14-24 however the lens didn't end up in the filing cabinet.

Impressive, the pano! I haven‘t tried that yet with wide angle lenses. Regarding weight and size: I usually try to use only one lens when I go for a specific topic like the Le Corbusier building (and I do not have the choice to take the SL21!). For me, the lens did good jobs so far and it balances quite well with my SL2-S. It‘s certainly not the every-day-lens, though - that‘s the SL24-90, which is another topic to talk about weight and balance!

I tried the VE14-24 in sone situations where I normally would use a 50 or 75.

This is from the garden of the Georg-Kolbe-Museum in Berlin: Video installation ‚Metabolic Rift‘ and sculpture ‚Annunciation‘.

I love being creative with the 14-24 Elmarit, Its a weird lens and promotes perspectives from the edge (of sanity perhaps). I mean the lens cap is ginormous and wouldn't fit in some tight jeans pocket not to mention the bulge it creates. I started shooting this arcade with the view for an abstract, playing with the fairy lights. The first shots fired were highly creative but interrupted by coffee with a friend. After coffee I/we resumed shooting the arcade scene however something was lost because I found myself getting real with Leica's PC and further adjustments one does when seriously composing and exposing between the darks and lights. Anyway this one is definitely from the creative side and 24 mm viewpoint.

You might want also to look into the Sigma 17mm f4. Super compact, good sharpness. I have even used it for astro and northern light photography and it weighs almost nothing
