n1hsum Posted August 9 Share #1  Posted August 9 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a Summicron 35mm v3 and the white lines/smudges are on an internal lens element. Can it be cleaned by opening the lens and placing the glass in isopropyl alcohol? I have a spanner wrench. If it's easily fixed I have a good deal otherwise I can return the lens.  Welcome, dear visitor! rogxwhit Posted August 9 Share #2  Posted August 9 Looks dangerously like scratches from inept cleaning with something abrasive. You can see that someone's had the lens apart previously. I'd be inclined to return it whilst the going's good.

250swb Posted August 9 Share #4 Â Posted August 9 Cleaning residue, caused by humidity or gassing grease fogging the residue, but you can see the front element has already been taken out at some point.
Ecar Posted August 9 Share #5 Â Posted August 9 Someone did a terrible job. I would return it. Quickly.
NigelG Posted August 9 Share #6  Posted August 9 I wouldn’t touch a lens with marks like that on the rings - that wasn’t taken apart by a lens tech imho.

Alberti Posted August 10 Share #8  Posted August 10 (edited) Its horrible. I think 'cleaning residue', that is invisible after it left the shop (or amateur it seems) - with just enough nucleus matter to start a cycle of condens-attracting haze after a few years; I say this because it looks like a form of Schneideritis. I had that on a 28mm that otherwise was more than excellent, optically/handling and only the last year it got such visible lines of 'something'. Edited August 10 by Alberti
Stuart Richardson Posted August 10 Share #9 Â Posted August 10 I wouldn't touch that lens with a ten foot pole.
