ISO thumb wheel function question

I can set the ISO as the thumb wheel function but if i want to change the ISO i need to PRESS the button first every time and then rotate the wheel?!

Is there a way that once you switch the wheel to ISO you can simply turn it at any time to change the ISO?

That is how it works.

You say that without pressing you have the exp. comp. This you could change in the setting. But there you cannot choose ISO.

No, i hold the button and set the dial to ISO, but if i take a photo and then try to rotate the dial nothing happens. I have to tap (not hold) the button to bring up the ISO values and then scroll through them. That seems really inefficient. I would like to make it so turning the dial automatically shows the ISO and lets you change it... Is that possible?

No other option. Its correct what you do.

And when you write that when turning the wheel then ist does "nothing" (really nothing?) then it is because that wheel is sett to "off" in the settings. There are the 3 options

- off

- focus aid

- exp. comp.

When pressing the wheel for about 3 seconds you get 32 options to choose from.

Well, on my Q3 I can set the "Wheelassignment" to 

• Off
• Auto
• Exp. Comp.
• ISO

When I set it to ISO, turning the thumb wheel changes ISO without any further action.

Maybe your firmware is different.

I shoot manual , select aperture & shutter speed ….. the wheel at the back selects ISO , NO PRESSING BUTTONS , works great.

You sir, are a genius. Mine was set to auto in the wheel assignment. So even though I could hold the button and select ISO, exposure compensation, etc. once that was set i still had to press the button each time to get the overlay to popup to then change values. So I was able to adjust the ISO, I simply had to click the button first. 

Once I set the wheel assignment to ISO instead of auto, it now it simply changes when rotating. Thank you!!!

What does it do when you set it to “auto”?
(Too lazy to find my manual, sorry.)

For me, nothing. It might change exposure compensation or something that doesn't effect manual control exposure, but i don't see anything changing on the screen... I assume with auto it simply adjusts to whichever auto mode you use (aperture priority,shutter priority, etc.)

That is fully correct. You state clearly in your post that you speak of the Q3. And when I look above then I see that we are in the Q forum . . .
