Hi guys, just joined and looking for some advice.

After a long time (many years) of wanting a Leica and with a limited budget, I can finally afford the original Q Typ 116 (used of course) from MPB in the UK. I will be trading in all of my Canon DSLR gear for this as I find that all I really need is a small-ish everyday carry body with a fixed lens rather than 2 bodies and 5-6 lenses including massive telephoto. I've got to the age where I really don't need the strain on my back from carrying that load anymore! At least 90% of the photos I've been taking recently were just holiday travel snaps and cars at car shows, so a big DSLR is overkill. Would the Q with it's 28mm lens be ok for my purposes? Also if I could afford the Q2 I would but I really am having to stick to £2000 as a maximum so I can't.

Anyway, hope to chat to you all and am looking forward to joining the magical world of Leica!

Dave

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Q and you can crop down to 50 mm angle of view. I would say made for your use.  Welcome.

The only thing that would worry me is taking what for me would be a very expensive camera out in the typical British weather, given that it doesn't have weather sealing.

I live in a similar climate - I have taken many non-weathersealed cameras out in inclement weather. Never had a problem. I keep them under my coat or even just covered and only expose them when using. I even took an M240 into the rain forest and though the viewfinder fogged up completely, the camera soldiered on and did not get to harm after drying out. Although the label gives extra peace of mind, no camera except the X-U and similar is truly weather sealed as in waterproof, it is marketing-speak for extra sealing which protects against spray ingress from above for a while. Even my hand will do the same.  You will find that the factory guarantee (for all brands) does not cover moisture damage for cameras sold as weather sealed.
