POUNDVIEW Posted July 20 Share #1 Posted July 20 Advertisement (gone after registration) New to LEICA as I inherited a model 111C, and very inexperienced. I tried to remove the lens but couldn't remove it - although the lens barrel was withdrawn. The focussing lever is prevented from turning completely. Forgive what might well be ignorance, but can anyone help?
Advertisement Posted July 20 Posted July 20 Hi POUNDVIEW, Take a look here Richards. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Pyrogallol Posted July 20 Share #2 Posted July 20 Please can you show some pictures of the lens as it is fitted on the body.

POUNDVIEW Posted July 20 Author Share #4 Posted July 20 Hi, I hope you got a copy of lens and what I know is stopping the focussing lever from moving.
Pyrogallol Posted July 20 Share #5 Posted July 20 It looks fairly standard. The lens may not have been removed for a long time. Extend the lens, turn the focussing round to the closest point so that you can get a good grip of the lens and try unscrewing it again.
POUNDVIEW Posted July 20 Author Share #6 Posted July 20 Thanks. Yes, the camera had been unused for a few decades, although it was kept in it's case. I had done what you suggested, because the lens turned easily until the focussing lever is stopped by a small bolt or screw showing at about "two o'clock". I wondered what it is there for and if I unscrewed it the lens could then be removed - but would that be a mistake?
Carlos cruz Posted July 20 Share #7 Posted July 20 Advertisement (gone after registration) Definite mistake, this screw is part of the lens it acts as limiter for focusing the lens. If you want to remove the lens the whole assembly with focusing index should unscrew.
Pyrogallol Posted July 20 Share #8 Posted July 20 The long stop screw is there to stop the lens unscrewing from its mount. If you take that screw out you can completely unscrew the lens, but that won’t help you as it will leave the mount still screwed into the body and the lens front that unscrews has a multistart thread. Unscrewing it does let you relubricate the focusing thread, I use a tiny smear of waterproof grease, but you need to take note of the position that the front section comes free from its mount so that you can put it back starting from the same position to get the infinity position to line up with the engraving on the mount. It can take several goes before you get it in the right position.
POUNDVIEW Posted July 21 Author Share #9 Posted July 21 (edited) Thank you both for advice/information. Very helpful. I've waited for 6 or 7 decades to own a Leica and now that I have one I would be foolish - knowing my luck - to risk problems. I don't need to remove the lens. As an aside can I ask, why when I look at several photos of a 111c do I see one or two with the screw in place, and others when it is not? Again, thanks.
