Shooting with my SL-2S last weekend. At one stage, I turned the camera off, and then shortly afterwards turned it back on. The viewfinder was blacked out, although the focus rectangle and horizontal guide were visible.  I was able to review my previous images on the rear screen, but not in the viewfinder.  The top screen showed that the battery was at approx one quarter charge.  I had been given no "Low battery" warning.  I turned the camera off and then on again. - No result.  I took the battery out and then re-inserted it. - No result.  I then replaced the battery with a fully charged one, and everything worked perfectly!  Has anyone struck a similar set of circumstances, or may have an explanation for this behaviour?  My only thought is that the battery may be faulty, or on the way out, but if so, it surely would not have been able to allow review mode to operate.

If a bad contact, I would have expected the review mode to be inoperable, but it functioned correctly on the rear screen. Just the viewfinder, and the shutter button were 'out to lunch'.

I had a somewhat similar problem on my Q3 which I initially thought was related to a faulty card but turned out to be related to a very low battery. Your issue may be related to how the software manages certain camera functions based on battery level. For example, while shooting at 5 fps on my SL2s I suddenly received a warning that only single shot mode was available, even though the battery was showing 25% charge.

Looks like I must put it down to a low battery. I will be using it again today, so will see if anything eventuates.

My reason for mentioning the review mode was to indicate simply that functions other than the viewfinder were operating normally, even though they could be expected to have as much current draw as the viewfinder.

Used the camera today to the extent that the battery was exhausted, and it performed faultlessly. Eventually the battery failed, and all functions in the camera ceased together.  I must conclude that my previous problem was caused by a battery fault (in a battery other than the one I used today). Hopefully, the saga ends here.

I have all sorts of problems with my SL2-S: I pop in a freshly charged battery and the camera doesn't start up! I leave my camera turned off in the drawer for one week and the battery drained to 50%. Sometimes I turn the camera off and it freezes. Happens with all three batteries I own. All with the latest firmware ... very frustrating!

Mine behaves oddly , as suggested , at times.

I turn it off and on and if that doesn`t sort things stick a fresh battery in , even though the one I`ve taken out isn`t fully discharged.

Check the battery contacts in the camera
