robgo2 Posted July 13 Share #1 Posted July 13 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am in the process of testing a new Q3 43, and I have noticed that the camera body gets quite warm when it is on. Is this normal? I have not experienced it with my Q2.

Le Chef Posted July 14 Share #2 Posted July 14 Check what is switched on, and turn off what you don’t need. All those features, like preview, post view, WiFi, BT, Fotos etc chew up battery capacity and therefore generate heat. If you don’t need them, dump them.
jaapv Posted July 14 Share #3 Posted July 14 All electronics heat up in use and it is particularly noticeable on a compact, packed body.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 14 Share #4 Posted July 14 Mine does not heat up in normal use. My normal use is to keep the LCD set to 'Extended' and so is off most of the time.
Tarekith Posted July 14 Share #5 Posted July 14 Mine tends to get warm when it’s pretty hot outside. Not in an obvious “hey it’s hot out and my camera is just as hot too” kind of way. More that the internal heat doesn't seem to dissipate as fast and it’s gets noticeably warmer than ambient when it’s in the mid-80’s°F or warmer. Hasn’t seemed to be a problem so far though.
robgo2 Posted July 15 Author Share #6 Posted July 15 I found the reason for the hot camera. I was shooting in AF-C, and whenever I would hold the shutter button half way down, I could hear the AF lens motor working. That resulted in the camera heating up. Switching to AF-S or iAF alleviated the problem.
