RotarySMP Posted July 13 Share #1 Posted July 13 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought my M8 somewhere around 2015, and the shutter failed a few years later. I figured sooner or later there would be a "how to" on the internet to fix it. I wasn't going to pay Leica $$$ to fix a Seiko shutter. Luckily Garbugli published a disassembly procedure. https://garbugli.wordpress.com/2018/07/09/leica-m8-shutter-fault-broken-release-lever/ It still took ages to get around to opening it up and repairing it. Turns out it is a pretty easy device to disassemble and work on. I made a video covering the process here... https://youtu.be/-X7CsgEgiks Cheers, Mark 6

lebanese blonde Posted July 13 Share #2 Posted July 13 Nice, thank you for your very detailed video! As a guy who loves his M8 more than his M10 this makes me very happy: knowing that not every camera failure has to be an economic total loss
Steve Ash Posted July 13 Share #3 Posted July 13 My M8.2 have never had any issues. I hope it stays that way. I am very impressed by your repair process though and that you dared to do it yourself. Congrats

Patarei Posted July 17 Share #8 Posted July 17 I appolgize for hijacking your thread, but Is Leica still repairing/replacing the shutter on Leica M8/M9?

Short answer: the soul The M8 files do have a way nicer organic look and the colors are way better in my opinion. It‘s hard to describe and i assume that it mostly can be seen in images that you took yourself. My M8 renders the colors more like i remember the scenes while taking the photo. In an A/B comparison i think i could tell the most M8 vs M10 files apart and i think i could‘nt do this in an M10/Sony A7 comparison. And: the M8 feels way more analog than my M10.
