You all know my photography is mostly in and around the garden. Some macro (60mm Elmarit TL) I am in the position to trade my S5 and purchase an SL2. Using my *Leica lenses would I really see an improvement in the IQ of my images?
* 23mm TL/ 17-56mm Vario TL/Meike 85mm FF/28-70mm Vario SL/35mm Summaron.

Thank you in anticipation. Regards 🍷..

You'll get larger files not better files. That'll allow some  cropping potential but that's it.

I appreciate your comments and came to the same conclusions. Regards 🍷

Agreed..all of the lenses you mentioned, except the Summaron, are native L-mount.  The summaron may have some slight advantage on the SL2 due to the sensor design that is more accommodating to M-Mount lenses though at 35mm and short focus distances, it is likely slight.

The other factor, that may be impactful for you is the higher resolution EVF - it depends on how you focus and your working methods.

The S5 is imho pretty useless for manual focusing, but I have absolutely no issues with the AF. I’m a single shot guy.. IQ is pretty damn good with all my lenses.. 🍷

You may have better in-camera lens correction from the TL lenses on the Leica.

Panasonic does better with its own camera with Panasonic lenses.

Any adapted lens will to better on the SL cameras.

The biggest jump in quality you will see with either camera is to use full frame lenses. You are basically throwing out half of the resolution and tonality by using them. Maybe that does not matter for your work, but that is the quality choke point, more than the cameras at this point.

Using TL lenses implies you have a size/weight concern. Why not get the native body: TL2 or CL? I used the CL in parallel for a while before swapping the CL for a Q2, and found them, not the same in IQ, but comparable. And you could add the Summilux-TL 35, one of Leica's finest lenses. I used just the Elmarit-TL 60 and Summilux-TL 35 for many years with a CL as my travelling kit: portrait, macro, general purpose - what not to like?

Decided to keep both CL and S5, use TL & FF/SL lenses on both.. IQ is good enough on either body for my work… Tx for all the info and advice.. 🍻
