Hello all,

I currently use a Leica SL3 and M10-R, I'm happy with the lenses that I have 35mm Summilux-M, 50mm Summicron-M, and 24-90 SL. I came into a situation where I could either add a Q2 to my kit or upgrade the M10-R to an M11 (or M11P). I like the quality of life updates for the M11, including internal storage, USB-C charging, and better battery life. The extra megapixels are not necessary, but they are a nice-to-have. On the other hand, I've been looking into macro lenses for the SL (100mm APO R mainly), so that the Q2 would be nice for that occasional use. It's lighter than the other two, and having an autofocus camera would be great for more relaxed times when I want quick shots.

Part of me thinks it would be nice to round out the kit and have the three camera options, but more options do invite decision paralysis. So I am looking to the community to get some insights and perspectives. I am a serious hobbyist, and photography serves as my outlet; I primarily use it for documenting street, wildlife, and everyday life scenes.

I think you haven't had a response because these questions are your sleepless nights. Prioritise whichever subject (street, wildlife, everyday life) is most important to you. Camera gear evolves, rarely does it all line up like ducks in a row, just buy something that makes a difference instead of fill a detail.

I recently have revamped my whole camera setup. Entering Leica caused a huge period of GAS, but finally I made myself a set for my needs:

m8 for infrared, with a 28/1.5 and 50/1.5

m9m + m9 for documentary with a 24 and 50mm

those three have all the same batteries, and cost the same as a new m11. With this, my m-set is complete and will also be my daily carry.

a SL2 with 50lux, 24-90 for portraits

Medium format for long exposures.

infrared, reportage, portraits and long exposure where my needs and based on that I selected the equipment.

what are your needs, and what piece is missing to fulfill the need. That is the question to your answer…

@midnhtsun, I think there is no need to "upgrade", neither to swap the M10R to a M11, either to extend the "camera fleet" by a Q2. Buying another lens would be the better choice. But if really want to buy a new cam, what's about a monochrome, maybe a M10M or Q2M

Interesting. I also just downgraded from an M11 to a combo of M9 and M9M. Even had some money to spare afterwards.
Still have SL2-S for portraits.

I came to the conclusion that it didn't make sense to have a $10.000+ setup as my everyday/holiday camera. And the M11 never gave me the wow-effect that the SL2-S or Q delivered. After testing the 9, 10, 11 against each other, I was always drawn to the M9 raws straight out of cam.
Yes, it has it's drawbacks on the technical side, but I don't really need high ISO or more MP or better burst mode on my M. Even the shit display can be a blessing in disguise (less chimping).

With what I said above, I. second this wholeheartedly. The best addition on the 11 is the internal storage for backup. Apart from that, keep your gear, get a new lens or something different like a Monochrom (Q or M).

Thanks for the advice. I think it has me leaning towards keeping the M10-R and just adding the Q2, since I am pretty good with lenses, this will give me another shooting experience when I want to change things up.
