eyedeebee Posted January 9, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love the depiction of the crook in the dock!! - I work in the criminal justice field and have yet to meet this guy! The bigger one dates from March 1939, no date on the smaller image.
Advertisement Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Hi eyedeebee, Take a look here A couple more classic ads. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted January 9, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2008 Funny and interesting for a some details... - The smaller suggests use of Leica indoor... and correctly they depict a Leica with the Summar f2... maybe it dates before 1936 (year of Xenon announcement) when Summar was the most luminous standard lens available. - The bigger is more "outdoor - tourist" oriented... but they still insist on high aperture lens... the Leica is depicted with a luxury Xenon 1,5 ... at that times, if I remeber well, it cost was similar to the cost of a body. - A bit strangerly, the Xenon looks of the very first version... two knurled rings on the barrell... it was already discontinued in 1939. - But in this same ad, the sketch of the gentleman with Leica is someway unrelated... the bag he has doesn't look like the EXOOM (the bag for Leica with Xenon mounted on) - Historically noticeable the date of March 1939... maybe one of the latest Leica ads in English magazines...only 6 month later Germany troops attacked Poland and the hell initiated. Sorry for the pedantry of an old gear lover...
