ALScott Posted July 2 Share #1 Posted July 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) Probably a 6 of one, half a dozen the other question. I will be shooting some for fun Friday, the crowd, friends, etc. I am not sure how easy it will be to even get the fireworks in the photo with people if at all. Would like to focus on people's faces as they watch really. Will probably only take 24-90.
Advertisement Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Hi ALScott, Take a look here Just throwing this out there... SL3 or SL3-S for fireworks?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LD_50 Posted July 2 Share #2 Posted July 2 If you need more than 24mp, SL3.
ALScott Posted July 2 Author Share #3 Posted July 2 Generally, that's how I try and decide but still being new to 60mp and even more so to 24mp I have no idea. Also, so many people say no one needs more than 24 so it's all very confusing.
LD_50 Posted July 2 Share #4 Posted July 2 I don’t think it’s confusing. If you have both, and if 24mp works for you go for the SL3-S. It doesn’t really matter what anyone else says. There’s nothing about the scenario you described that would benefit from the larger number of PDAF sensors on the SL3-S so I’d just choose based upon what you need for resolution.
jaapv Posted July 3 Share #5 Posted July 3 And is a rare occurrence to need 60 MP... Especially for fireworks shots with such high contrast and motion that you could easily use an 8MP camera.
Chuck Albertson Posted July 3 Share #6 Posted July 3 A tripod, ISO 100, f/8 and be there. I don't think the sensor resolution will make any difference.

I don't think the sensor resolution will make any difference. Resolution makes a difference depending on output size and viewing distance and medium, the want to crop, etc. I say this while owning and shooting at 24mp for the past 15+ years and choosing not to go with the available higher resolution cameras. In other words, I’m not advocating for or against higher resolution, but it must be acknowledged it does make a difference depending on how the photos are used. jaapv Posted July 3 Share #8 Posted July 3 Aye, but on fireworks photographs would anybody see the difference? I think not
