parigby Posted July 1 Share #1 Posted July 1 Advertisement (gone after registration) My existing CL kit is 18mm 35mm and 60mm. I am minded to get one of the above to achieve longer reach, and would welcome views on their usability. Thanks in advance. regards …… philip
Advertisement Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Hi parigby, Take a look here Vario Elmerit 55-135 / 24-90. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted July 1 Share #2 Posted July 1 The 55-135 would complement your existing lenses and give you the longer reach you need.
parigby Posted July 1 Author Share #3 Posted July 1 Thanks David. I suppose what’s really concerning me is the lack of IS and whether l can control any lens wobble. philip
wda Posted July 1 Share #4 Posted July 1 Philip, I grew up in an era when IS didn't exist. So I have a method of choosing my shutter speed relevant to the focal length selected. It can be done. Experiment. The CL telezoom is an excellent lens for portraiture and selecting details in the landscape, for example.
parigby Posted July 1 Author Share #5 Posted July 1 Thanks for the advice David. I suppose we all have to adapt as age begins to creep in. I know that five years ago it forced me away from my M8 in that reduced eyesight made manual focusing a real hit or miss business. BTW, we are near neighbours, in that l am in Dorset. philip
tommonego@gmail.com Posted July 1 Share #6 Posted July 1 If you are worried about the weight of the 55-135, what I have to cover the range is a 90 f2.8 Elmarit and a 135 f4 Tele Elmar. Both lenses are light weight for the focal length, and are very good lenses. They are also faster than the zoom. Those two, and an adapter would be slightly less expensive than a used 55-135. The focus assists on the CL work very well especially for telephotos. 1

If daytime, you’ll have no issue. I just set to double the focal length and away I go. It’s relatively fast for a lens like this to. Im in Hampshire… where in Dorset are you? I’m there quite a lot. Love the Jurassic coast, one of my happy places
parigby Posted July 2 Author Share #8 Posted July 2 Hi JTLeica I’ve an offer in on a 55-135. having decided that the 24-90 was way to heavy and expensive. I’m based in Sherborne. philip
