Hey I just received a summilux 35mm fle v1 from MPB listed as excellent, and when I received it, the aperture ring fill really loose, I have other Leica lenses and they have a little play to. But this is looser and more play. Is this normal ? I have seen some other mentions of this, but is it normal that it’s this loose? It’s right at 1.4, and it’s stops down a bit when it moves, ( show just a tiny bit of the tip of the aperture blades ) is it normal / fixable / or a faulty lens I should return?
I have not tried another copy of the lens.

kind regards

Matias

  • MatKuhre changed the title to Summilux Aperture ring loose

All my Leica lenses do have a little play at the end of the aperture scale, and it is not the same amount with every lens. My Voigtländer and Zeiss VM lenses do have in fact less play. The amount of play shown in your video seems a tad higher than with my Summilux 35mm but that is difficult to compare. If the clicks are smooth and the f1.4 opening is already reached with the "click" position, I personally would not care. However if the movement between clicks is uneven or the aperture opening changes between f1.4 "click" and  hard stop I would consider a service/repair/replacement.

Thank you 🙏 it’s hard to say, it moves a tiny bit, it like the “real” click is at 1.4 and then there is a small one in almost the same spot and at the small one the tips of the aperture blades become visible ( just a tiny bit, but they stille move in between ) the rest of the aperture seems smooth and even clicks 🙂

Quite normal. Mine is like that. Can be adjusted if lens needs other adjustment in future.
Just use it and enjoy the beautiful images it takes.

OmG, that takes the whole good out of it. If I read your text correctly I have now a lens that can (or should it?) be adjusted whereas other lenses do not need that. I want the perfect lens not one that needs adjustment. I will have sleepless nights from now on . . .

Yes it’s a bit annoying, but it’s not a new lens and the price was kinda fair, the description was not 😅

but it seems to work perfectly in all other aspects.

but it’s my first kinda expensive Leica lens, so I’m a bit bummed that it was not 100% as I expected. But if a lot of them have that flaw and it’s fixable, I’m leaning toward keeping it.

but I think I’m gonna test it more tomorrow, before making a decision 😀

You totally misunderstood. With Leica you have options. If you want a loose ring you can have one. If you want a tight ring you can have one. Are you a loose or tight ring guy?

Ahh yes sorry I didn’t catch that 😅👌 yes I like that, but I wasn’t sure it was only a tight / loose issue. As there was a strange extra “click” 😅

And your lens is absolutely perfect. No worry.

two f/1.4 stops 🙂

See if you like it at the 1.4 you can set not force.

If this is going to bug you send it back.
