Minigill Posted June 30 Author Share #41 Posted June 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) How are people sending their camera's back insured without costing an arm and leg ? Got the return number from Leica Mayfair, but told to use post office/courier at my expense. I know DPD don't take camera, looked at DHL but the insurance rockets the price up. I really don't fancy a trip to Mayfair (especially without doing some street photography !!!). Thanks.

I have always contacted Leica CC in Wetzlar direct and they e-mail shipping label for collection from home. What do Mayfair add to process? I would use Royal Mail before 1pm Remember to take your battery out as you will not get it back if left in camera.

Probably add nothing to it Myafair, however their return warranty on the stie is they review first incase they can repair in house (2 weeks), then they send to Germany. Both Customer Service, site T&C's and local store advided the same. Good point on the battery ! Unfortinately RMSD is max of £2.5K. Once you start adding insurance onto DHL you see the quote ramp right up. Might take in person although I really don't want a trip to London but I can get to look at replacments.

I normally use these people, not cheap, especially when you’ve got to pay for Royal Mail etc on top https://www.secursus.com/en-gb/
Minigill Posted July 28 Author Share #46 Posted July 28 WOW... got the email with the repair info and already started, 9 days plus time back to UK.. I am gobsmacked on turnaround... So from beginning of June to now, plus repair time, shipping, and it will still be in warranty when it comes back... ! unlike if it was 6 months, it would have been out by then. Hold that 2nd camera purchase... was literally just about to buy M10R!

Derbyshire Man Posted July 28 Share #48 Posted July 28 Yep, I've learned my lesson. Mine sat in London for nearly a month before it got anywhere near Germany. 14 days ago got the invoice and said yes. No update yet, probably sit in London for another month before it comes back!

Mine was a week in London before shipping out, warranty invoice today with 9 working days repair estimated, then ship back, probably sit with yours in London The invoice said for approval with a zero final total, I did query do I need to approve, they said no, we have already started it !
Derbyshire Man Posted July 28 Share #50 Posted July 28 I think they batch them out. Did the shipping label from Leica come from London then? I thought you could send them directly to Germany? Well, I'd hoped you could anyway.

Originally they asked me to send to Mayfair, I said, er could you collect (not wishing the insurance cost), so they shipped out DPD label, delivery to London. Then a week later got confirmation they were sending to Germany and could take up to 3 weeks before it got there. I had written it off until January which is what customer service originally quoted, so was in shock to day to get email ! Especially when I was waiting for email on M10R I enquired about and it was mine instead. Customer service said no to direct Germany, and to Mayfair first, which is in their T&C's. Mayfair look first then Germany if no fix. Await batch new delivery
Derbyshire Man Posted July 28 Share #52 Posted July 28 (edited) Really odd, mine went in before yours and seems to be coming back after! Bloody favouritism, that's what it is! 🤣 Edited July 28 by Derbyshire Man
Minigill Posted July 31 Author Share #53 Posted July 31 (edited) So its not looking rosey for my own camera, got this today from Leica, and would appreciate some advice. My camera was a lovely minty used, had it 6 months before 'houston we have a problem'. "I wanted to update you regarding your camera that was recently sent in for repair. Unfortunately, despite several attempts, our technicians have been unable to restore it to full working condition. As a result, we will be exchanging your camera for a replacement unit" I have asked what condition a replacement will be, what year, shutter, OEM box, what exactly am I getting back kinda thing. It took me a while to find mine in a condition I wanted. I do wonder which bit put the nail in the coffin.. I am not quite sure how I feel about this, more the shock of, what, I wasn't expecting this. Anyone been in the position before? It will come with 2 yr warranty. Malabito Posted July 31 Share #54 Posted July 31 Stories like these, and the fact that for the last 5 years I had to send something to Leica basically every year, makes me want to sell my M11 before something happens, given it no longer has a guarantee.
Jeff S Posted July 31 Share #55 Posted July 31 1 hour ago, Minigill said: It took me a while to find mine in a condition I wanted. Apparently not. Accept the generous exchange/warranty and be happy. But consider adding personal insurance, which ideally would cover any future shipping loss or out of warranty issues.

So you bought a used camera looking cosmetically good but with a major issue six months ago. Leica are offering to exchange it and provide a two year warranty ! This is very decent and generous. If it were me I would be grateful.

JNK100 Posted August 1 Share #58 Posted August 1 It looks like the OP bought a faulty used camera without a warranty and Leica will replace it and offer a warranty. That is amazing . I have owned five Leicas digital cameras - all without any issues. It is known that far more people raise issues than those that have none. 4
Minigill Posted August 1 Author Share #59 Posted August 1 To clear things up, I bought the camera used from Leica, with 12 month warranty, failed after 6 months. I am very grateful for what Leica are offering, the issue I raised, I just wondered if anyone had received a replacement (I have not had this before), and slightly shocked a 2 year camera could not be fixed. Its all arranged so will close the subject of replacement advice, thanks.
jaapv Posted August 1 Share #60 Posted August 1 This service tallies with my experiences with Leica CS. Despite their staffing -and thus timeframe- difficulties they will be customer friendly.
