enoxiste Posted June 21 Share #1 Posted June 21 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone! I have maybe a silly question. I want to buy used leica q2 monochrom camera. I found 2 options, both of them are in mint condition. Two cameras are on sale in different places btw. They only differs from production/release date. One of them is released at the beginning of 2021, one of them is in 2024. 2024 one costs 300 dolar more. Can there be a difference between these two products due to production date? I mean, i heard that early productions of leica q had a dust problem, so they fixed it after. I didnt hear anything about q2 monochrom, but i wanted to ask you if you have any experience related to this. And which one would you choose? Thanks. LocalHero1953 Posted June 21 Share #2 Posted June 21 I have never heard of such a difference between different years of the Q2 Monochrom.
enoxiste Posted June 21 Author Share #3 Posted June 21 I didn't pay attention before also but i think there is. To be exact, one of them is from December 2020, other one October 2024, very late production. I asked sellers about usage of cmaeras and both sellers told me that shutter counts of them are around 1-2k. But there are 4 years between them, i don't know it can make difference somehow. MJFinelli Posted June 27 Share #6 Posted June 27 I would pay $300 more for the newer Q. Battery will be newer, those cost around $200.
F-train Posted June 27 Share #7 Posted June 27 Advertisement (gone after registration) Buy the one that looks best cared for. Box, papers, paintwork etc. Careless use is more ageing than time.

JNK100 Posted June 27 Share #9 Posted June 27 But from a dealer if you can with a warranty. The newer one will be worth the extra all things being equal.
jaapv Posted June 28 Share #10 Posted June 28 It does not make a difference. There were no upgrades during the production run. Buy the camera tha looks the best cared for.

Umm, my M8 batteries from 2006 are still OK. Even the ones from my Digilux2,from 2004 are usable. Lithium batteries vary widely in lifespan, from 3 to 15 years average as it depends on a number of factors. There are multiple Lithium battery technologies. Some last far longer than others. The quality of the materials used, especially the membranes, makes a huge difference, the quality of the internal electronics, the number of charge cycles, the depth of the charge cycles ( partial discharge is far better) the storage conditions,, etc. Leica batteries are crazily expensive, but even allowing for the red dot premium, we can assume that most of the price went into providing the most durable batteries on the market. As an example: of the many M8/9 batteries that I owned, the Leica ones all survive, but most third party ones expired.
